One aspect that makes this production special is that the 28 young
performers (age 8-15) are doing something different than a standard
play or musical that is part of everybody's school curriculum - not the
same old, same old that your Aunt Edna and Uncle Charlie have dutifully
seen your older siblings perform countless times.
Presenting Unwrapped: an original comedy production written in 2005 by Charlie Lovett and presented by the highly credentialed (and extremely hyphenated) Saratoga theatre co-directing professionals Kate Pitney-Gaba and Michelle Summerlin-Yergin. Together they compose the force that guides the Flying Kite Children's Theatre. The mission of this company is to present an opportunity for aspiring young actors to perform in a professional environment, and through its Education Outreach Program the comedy will be performed for Lake Avenue Elementary School's 2nd and 5th grade classes.
Unwrapped is a show that is appropriate for all ages and takes place in 1930's Hollywood, where the world's worst movie producer, David O. Dimwit, decides to travel to Transylvania to produce his next horror movie. A string of mysterious murders plagues the set and completely baffles the aptly named Chief Inspector Idiot!
With the help of some local talent (a green-faced monster, a hunchback and a mad scientist), the director and his cast triumph over murder and help solve the mystery.
The spooky, creepy-crawly vibe surrounding Unwrapped should get everyone in the mood for Halloween next weekend.
