Saratoga Springs - Henry (Hank) P. Varriale, 72, of Louden Road,
formerly of Rotterdam, passed away Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at Ellis
Hospital after a short illness and with his family at his side.
Born on Dec. 10, 1936 in Schenectady, he was the son of Patsy and Rose (Greco) Varriale and attended Draper High School. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1954, receiving several Vietnam campaign medals and retired in 1974. He was employed by CDTA of Schenectady for 25 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of Beukendaal Masonic Lodge 0915 of Scotia, B.P.O. Elks Lodge 2517 of Rotterdam, American Legion Post 0332, Kennedy Space Center, FL, the DAV and several motor coach clubs. His hobbies included his boat, golfing, traveling in his motor home, visiting his neighbors on his golf cart with his dogs, playing cards and enjoying his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Diane J. (Huening) Varriale,; one son, Kenneth (Holly) Varriale of Northville, NY; three daughters, Cindy (Rob) Longdaue of Arygle, NY, Nancy (Wes Shinn) Sautter of Saratoga Springs, and Dede (John) Fink of Schenectady; six grandchildren, Wilson, Jessie, Doug, Nicholas, Bethany and Jayme; one sister, Fran (Sid) DiMascio of Ormond Beach, FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his parents, his step-father, James Greco and several aunts and uncles.
Relatives and friends paid their respects on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of Saratoga Springs.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors followed at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials donations in Hank's name may be made to Schenectady Inner City Ministry, 839 Albany Street, Schenectady, NY, 12307.
