Mary Chen and her husband Yong Li, owners of the 70 Beekman Street Art
Gallery in Saratoga Springs invite all to a free concert, open to the
public, to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The concert will be held on
Sunday, February 7 at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the First Baptist
Church, 45 Washington Street, Saratoga Springs.
The program will consist of a mix of traditional Chinese folk songs and Western opera arias by Puccini, Mozart, Verdi, and others. Performers will be nine members of a New York City-based group, the New York Vocal Artists Research Center, whose purpose is to "enrich cultural life in our communities" and "to promote exchanges between the United States and China." The group consists of professional singers, pianists and composers who either graduated from well-known music conservatories in China or have studied their vocal skills under renowned singers and musical teachers around the world.
Mary and Yong, themselves distinguished vocalists originally from Beijing, will join the performers.
This will be the first of ten 2010 concerts in the 70 Beekman Street concert series. The series is funded in part by a grant from NYSCA (New York State Council of the Arts) awarded through Saratoga Arts.
