For the past few years, I have ended each and every one of my articles for this paper with just three words, "See you outdoors." So it is only fitting that I end the last article I will be writing for this paper with those same simple three words
If you have read my articles over the past few years, even if only now and then, I'm sure you know that I consider myself to be an outdoorsman and that I do a lot of hunting.
I am a map freak. For as long as I can remember, I've been in love with
maps. Any kind of a map. Road map. Topo map. Marine map. Love those
National Geographic maps. They're better than... well, almost.
I have had a busy fall. A few weeks ago, two of my hunting companions
and I returned from an elk hunting trip in the Rocky Mountains in
Colorado. The weekend after our return, I was hunting in the Adirondack
Mountains and the following weekend, my wife and I took a ride out to
Cape Cod to visit with some relatives.
Anyone who reads this or any of my weekly articles knows that I spend a
good deal of time outdoors and particularly in the fall and winter,
much of that time is in wilderness areas hunting.
Hear yea! Hear yea! Hear yea!
Some of you who read the title of this article might think I'm
referring to a foot race of ten kilometers for some charity of other.
Well, I'm not.
A few weeks ago, I wrote about my upcoming elk hunting trip to
Colorado. Well, I'm back with more than 4,100 miles passing under our
vehicle!
Recently, Mayor Scott Johnson and I were at a family function and
during our far too brief conversation he said something to the effect
that he enjoyed reading my weekly articles because he did not consider
himself to be an outdoorsman, and he learned from what I had to say.
I got it! The ultimate solution to all of the problems and
controversies that have been and still are swirling around every one of
our outdoor issues.
