After a strange tornado hits her farm in Kansas, Dorothy finds herself over the rainbow in the land of the Munchkins. 2. Miss out on tickets for the Saratoga City Ballet presentation of “The Nutcracker”? For those still wanting to experience the show check out the Nutcracker Open Dress Rehearsal on Thursday, December 13 at 6pm. They will be opening dress rehearsal to the public for a reduced price. All seats are general admission. Tickets are first come first served. This is a working rehearsal and there may be stops and starts in the program. ]]>1. Don’t miss the Festival of Trees in Saratoga, running from Thursday, November 29th through Sunday, December 2nd at the Saratoga Springs City Center. A fun filled family event, you can come see the beautifully decorated trees, wreathes and other holiday items on display for visitors to purchase and admire. Santa himself will also be stopping by from time to time for pictures!
2. One of the best holiday traditions in town, the Saratoga Tree Lighting Ceremony, will take place in front of Putnam Wine, 435 Broadway, Saratoga on Wednesday, November 28th at 7pm! Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance, arriving by horse drawn carriage, and kids will get a chance to visit with them! There will be free hot chocolate and cookies with music by Star 101.3 radio. But don’t forget the most important part-the tree lighting! Afterward head to the Saratoga Festival of Trees! 3. The Victorian Street Walk, a quintessential Saratoga holiday tradition, is Thursday, November 29th. Downtown Saratoga closes to traffic and all of Broadway is blanketed in Victorian holiday magic each year the Thursday after Thanksgiving for the annual Saratoga Springs Victorian Streetwalk from 6-10 pm. There will be all types of entertainers working the crowds at the Victorian Streetwalk in downtown Saratoga Springs. Musicians, singers, magicians, and other performances will delight young and old alike. Santa will welcome visits from children at his special cottage, and kids can get up close and personal with his real-life team of reindeer right down the street! Carolers stroll the sidewalks dressed in elegant period costumes and free hot beverages and treats will be served at numerous locations around downtown. There will be over 50 venues with entertainment, and best of all, everything is free and open to the public! The CDTA, will be running free shuttle buses every 20 minutes from the Empire State College parking lot at 111 West Ave and the Oklahoma track (just off Exit 14 of I-87) and the Weible Avenue Skating Rink parking lots on the east side of Saratoga Springs to downtown, bringing carloads of people to and from the Victorian Streetwalk from 4:30 until 10:30 PM.
4. Saturday, December 1st is Family Day at the Saratoga Festival of Trees from 11am to 6pm Sponsored by Mamatoga favorite Healthy Living Market and Cafe! Tickets for the Festival of Trees are $8 Adults; $5 Seniors; $3 Children over 10; Children under 10 are free. There will be Breakfast with Santa with seatings at 8, 9:30 SOLD OUT and 11am which costs $8 per person (kids 12 months and under are free). 5. The Saratoga City Ballet Nutcracker Brunch is on Sunday, December 2nd at The Vista at the Van Patten Golf Club in Clifton Park from 11:30-2pm. Join Saratoga City Ballet Company on December 2nd at 11:30 AM as they journey to the Land of the Sweets for a ballet brunch and a performance of Act II of the Nutcracker. Part fashion show (I’m going to be one of the models along with my family!), part gourmet luncheon, and part holiday retail extravaganza, the One Stop Holiday Shop will showcase an eclectic mix of fall, winter, and holiday clothing and gifts from local boutiques while raising money for a good cause. A select group of specialty retailers have reserved retail tables at the event, selling everything you could need for the holiday season and beyond, including host & hostess gifts, clothing and accessories, books, specialty items, and jewelry. Guests are invited to shop at the retail tables throughout the day, both before and after the fashion show takes place. During the fashion show, they will have an opportunity to indulge their taste buds with gourmet hors d’oeuvres and a 3-course, fall-inspired luncheon. 5. One of my favorite downtown events, the 2012 Saratoga DBA Fall Festival in Saratoga Springs is this Saturday, October 27th from 10am to 5pm. The Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association, Special Assessment District, and Star 101.3 are proud to present the 11th Annual Fall Festival in downtown Saratoga Springs on Saturday, October 27th, 2012, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Fall Festival provides free entertainment and activities including Radio Disney, magic shows, trick or treating, arts & crafts, and more! All entertainment is free and open to the public.

]]>1. On Tuesday, October 23rd from 6 to 10pm head to Vapor Nightclub at Saratoga Casino and Raceway for the Signature Chefs Auction For March of Dimes in Saratoga. For those whose passion is food, or for those who just enjoy a good meal, this is the event for you. The culinary expertise of Saratoga Springs all in one place, preparing their signature dish! Not only will guests taste some amazing food – any of the chefs dishes that they may want – but guests will also be in the amazing atmosphere of Vapor, the nightclub of Saratoga Raceway! After an evening of great food and auctions the night ends with an “Iron Chef” Competition with emcee Dan Eaton, Cooking at Home YNN. 3. At Prime at Saratoga National on Thursday, October 25th at 6:30pm they are having a Beer Dinner featuring Brooklyn Brewery. The Beer Dinner will give guests a chance to try multiple different types of beer with a large selection of food. For example, try the Brew House Cobb Salad with some Brooklyner Weisse or a House Seasoned Coulotte Steack with Brooklyn Ghost Beer. Tickets cost $75 and reservations must be made. 4. Head to Saratoga National Golf Club on Friday, October 26th for the Halloween Masquerade Gala to Benefit NCMEC. Have you ever wanted to attend a real masquerade ball? Well this is your chance! 5. Get ready to run for your life (and a fantastic cause) on Sunday, October 28th at Saratoga Springs State Park for the rUNDEAD 5k! The rUNDEAD is a 5k trail run to support Special Olympics New York. What are the obstacles on this run?… Zombies. Each runner will start off with a flag belt and three flags. These flags represent your lifelines. Zombies throughout the course will be attempting to take these one at a time. If you finish the race with at least one flag, you’ve survived, BUT if zombies have taken all your flags you can complete the race, but will not be eligible for awards. Individuals can participate as either runners or zombies. Zombies: Running not exciting enough for you? Be a zombie! Each zombie will be transformed in our “mob Tent” the day of the event! Registration begins at 7:30am and the race is at 9:30am. Bring your own attire and let us make you into the undead. The cost to participate as a zombie is $15 re-registered or $20 day of (if there are still openings). Zombies can sign up as individuals or teams. Each zombie receives their official transformation, a rUNDEAD race t-shirt, participation in race day festivities and the thrill of the chase. ALL AGES WELCOME!
