Racino Places Local Kids First

For the third year in a row, the Harness Track drivers will donate one day's worth of driving fees, matched by the Saratoga Casino and Raceway, to benefit "Project Lift" at the Franklin Community Center.

On August 30th, $3,000 in drivers fees plus an additional $3,000 from the Racino will be donated to Project Lift at the FCC.fcc shha 2011.JPG

The project is an after-school prevention program aimed toward at-risk youth from ages 1-5.

It provides an environment that is safe, caring and stable for 75 children. They are taught prevention skills against drugs, alcohol, tobacco and bullying, and gain social competence and greater self-esteem in the program.

The relationship between the Racino and FCC has been strong and positive for the past seven years. The community center says it is very grateful to have support from an organization that backs the FCC's cause so wholeheartedly.

In fact, the Saratoga Springs Harness Track drivers are so passionate about the program that it is they who front the annual efforts to donate.

Bo Goliber, the Coordinator of Development at the Franklin Community Center, said it best:

"This is what helps keep us going every day. We are so lucky to have such generous people supporting us that are willing to sacrifice their own wages to ensure that others have what they need. It's paying it forward in the best way possible."

What do you think about the Racino's donation? Are there other "pay it forward" charity movements around Saratoga that we should know about? Please tell us!
