In the 144-year history of the Saratoga Race Course, no jockey has ever won more than six races on a single card. That record was set in September of 2001, by Jockey John Velazquez. This past Sunday however, Ramon Dominguez tied this record by winning six races!

The sad rumors are true: next year, the NYC ballet will only be in Saratoga for one week. Even though this news caused great disappointment in Saratoga, it isn't all doom and gloom and here's why...

Nicole Wardle, research and design engineer at Kitware, has started a new blog on Saratoga.com and it looks like a great idea! The blog is simple, yet captivating. Wardle will research topics that she knows nothing about, and share her new found knowledge with her readers!

Wardle has a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Psychology and a master's in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She's done quite a bit of research while completing two theses on Natural Language Processing while at RPI.

Wardle's new project, How Should I Know? will test her research skills, as she sets out to learn about topics that she never had time (or a reason) to learn about in the past.

In her first post, Wardle introduces herself then dives right into the research she did on the Tudors (the subject of her favorite Showtime show). She discusses the royal family, and leaves us on a cliff hanger about Henry VIII taking the throne. Maybe she'll get back to that story in the future!

Her next post was on a topic we can all relate to. Mosquitoes. What attracts mosquitoes, what repels them, and what their role in the ecosystem is. An interesting read!

Is there anything you would like to learn about, but haven't had the chance? Let Nicole Wardle do the research for you (we think she likes it)! You can suggest topics by emailing her here:

ednaimage.jpgOk, it's not Dame Edna, it's Michael Walters impersonating Dame Edna. Sequins blaze and punchlines fly as our favorite saucy Aussie re-creates a Dame Edna extravaganza!

This event will sell out, but we've got a pair of tickets to give away here on Saratoga.com.

Entrepreuners by definition are risk takers. They often put everything on the line to see if something will pay off. Many of us aren't brave enough to be entrepreneurs, but we enjoy taking smaller risks by simply trying something new, like a new restaurant.

In Saratoga.com's newest blog, Bitten, entrepreneurship comes together with new dining options, as TV host Jennifer Savino explores food and beverage start-ups.

lapband-image.jpgSix time Emmy Award winning comedy writer Bruce Vilanch will be performing at The Mansion Inn of Saratoga next week. The Hollywood Squares star has been writing for the Oscars for over 20 years, and now writes for the Tonys, Grammys and Emmys as well.

If you're in the mood for a new restaurant with a Mediterranean style menu then 51 Front Bistro might be the type of dinning you're looking for. Last month, a local couple, Joe and Elena Marosek, bought the restaurant and reopened the Ballston Spa bistro. I was able to ask one of the owners, Joe Marosek, a few questions recently about his new purchase.

Many are familiar with the Caboose that graces the Saratoga County Fairgrounds. To the uninitiated it may seem like any old fair exhibit, but returning visitors can speak to the charm and delight that can be discovered in the old train car. This year, visitors can look forward to the Caboose being newly refurbished courtesy of some thoughtful community members.

This year, Saratoga.com introduced the Fab Five awards so you could tell us all your favorite places in the area, and now the results are in

Patrons at the Saratoga Racetrack have long enjoyed the convenience of Hattie's booth at the track. With delicious food in one hand and betting slips in the other, Hattie's at the Track is something enjoyed by all. Fried chicken fans were appalled however, when it was recently announced that Hattie's spot at the track may be moving to a tiny booth in an out of the way location.

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to ask a member of "No Destination", a motorcycle group for men and women, a few questions. Kristine Choma is the event organizer of the the group and has been busy lately preparing for two of the group's biggest summer events: their Chili Cook-Off event and Poker Run.motorcycle.jpg

In previous years, the Saratoga County Fair's Live Music Pavilion was known as the Beer Garden. The name change, combined with the awesome lineup, promise to make the music at the 171st Saratoga County Fair more amazing than ever before.
