What's New in Saratoga

September 2012 Archives

Halloween is a fun time of the year for everyone, but sometimes it can get a little too spooky for the little ones. Ellms Family Farm offers a Halloween Hayride that totally kid-friendly and Saratoga.com is giving away a 4 pack of tickets each Thursday until Oct 25!

Before you decide to throw away your old Halloween costumes, donate them to the families served by Franklin Community Center in Saratoga Springs NY. The price of a Halloween costume can make the holiday a tough time for some families in need, but you can make a difference this year by donating your costumes.

The Saratoga Casino and Raceway will be increasing their purses after seeing positive results in revenue. The 2012 season will have the highest harness racing purses ever in the 71-year history of the track.

Run from zombies!!! Or be a zombie yourself, in this unique pre-Halloween 5k run in Saratoga Springs, appropriately named Rundead 5k!

"Where were you when the world stopped turning, on that September day?" These lyrics from the popular Alan Jackson song are relevant every year when the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on our World Trade Centers draws near. I don't know a single adult who can't specifically recall exactly where they were and how they felt when they heard the news or watched the attacks.

Now, in the towers' place, a 9/11 memorial in place at Ground Zero serves as a memorial for those lost on that tragic day. Saratoga Springs also has its own 9/11 memorial in High Rock Park. Saratoga's 25-foot tall "Tempered By Memory" statue is made of twisted metal taken from the World Trade Center wreckage and was dedicated Sunday, September 9th, just two days before the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

contest-oktobeerfest.jpgThe Third Annual Oktobeerfest will take place this October 13th from 1-6PM at a new location! This awesome celebration of German culture, bier, food and music is at the Malta Drive-In Theater this fall!

Several regional breweries will be in attendance showing off their seasonal craft brews. German and American food will be provided, as well as wine and non-alcoholic beverages in addition to the great beer selections. Contests, games, live music and more to entertain you all afternoon!

Get out your lederhosen and come wash down your brats and kraut with some great seasonal beers!

NOTE: This event is for patrons 21 and over.

The first ever Saratoga Steeplechase Festival, previously scheduled for September 15th has been cancelled - for now.  2012 event plans included a chance to watch the races from the infield for the first time in 30 years and estimated the event would draw as many as 10,000 people! Anyone who purchased tickets and box seats will be refunded. Event organizers are hopeful the event can be rescheduled in 2013 and be even better!

Event Organizers hope to combine the event with the Saratoga 150, a celebration that marks 150 years since thoroughbred racing started in Saratoga!  By postponing the Steeplechase Festival, there will be more time to plan and attain more support for this great event!

When a new date is announced, Saratoga.com will be sure to fill you in on all the details!  Stay tuned so you can get your tickets early!
