Are you planning to participate in Freihofer’s Run for Women 5K this June? This year officials are bringing the popular Training Challenge to Saratoga Springs and Clifton Park!
The 10-week Training Challenge is designed for women runners of all skill and experience levels. Whether you are just starting or an advanced runner, you can join the Training Challenge to get yourself in shape for the race and keep your training on track.
“The program is based on the Couch to 5k Training Program,” trainer Kristen Hislop told Community News. “In the past it was in Albany but we found all women didn’t want to go to Albany for their workouts. This year I wanted to give more women a chance to participate so we’re including two spots in Saratoga County.”
Training will start the week of March 20. Hislop said that the goal of the run and the Training Challenge has always been to get women moving and keep them accountable to themselves and the group as part of a structured program. Fitness Apps and programs like the FitBit Challenge have proven that social accountability is a strong motivator to get people active and keep them committed to a fitness program. The Training Challenge takes this social accountability out of your phone and into the real world with weekly group training.
Participants will not only get a professionally designed training program, but also data to help them see the changes the program helped them make. Body composition and blood pressure will be measured at both the beginning and the end of the Training Challenge so participants have hard data showing them the difference that regular exercise can make.
