What's New in Saratoga

Destiny Malone: March 2012 Archives

For those who love to bet the horses, some bad news. I just read from the TU that harness racing has been suspended at Saratoga Casino and Raceway until April 11th. Apparently some of the horses have fallen ill with a disease known as "Strangles," which sounds scarier than it actually is. It's kind of like a horse cold.

Whether you kiss your necklace or cross your fingers before pulling the lever on the slot machine, many of us have our superstitions when it comes to luck... Saratoga Casino & Racewaythough I have to admit, today was the first time I have ever heard of anyone rubbing their husband's belly for good luck (more on this later).

As our friends over at Saratoga Casino and Raceway are launching a new series of commercials that feature stories direct from real guests, they're also holding a contest for others to enter their stories online. Those who submit their stories have a chance at winning $500 and being featured in the next series of commercials for Saratoga Casino and Raceway, to run this summer.

Construction is underway, and Martell expects the new Druthers Brewing Co to open this July on Broadway in Saratoga Springs.

From the sounds of it, many good things are in store for us when Druthers Brewing Company opens this summer. Read our interview with Martell Below.

What inspired you to want to open a brewpub in Saratoga?

My brothers and I have been brewing craft beer out of my garage and visiting brew pubs throughout the US for a number of years, so the dream of owning a brew pub has been something that we have shared for quite some time. A few years ago, when the economy began to sink and my brother lost his job as a pension analyst, we began talking about acting on our dream and launching our own brand of beer. My brothers and I have lived in Saratoga for over 30 years and couldn't think of a better place to introduce our brand.
