If you are as fuzzy as this photo about what to get dear ol’ Mom for Mother’s Day, how about an adventure in the Battenkill Valley? The good folks over at Battenkill Valley Outdoors on Rt. 313 in the heart of the valley are hosting a fun time this weekend. Lance Alpi of Big Branch Boats will showcase his handcrafted wooden canoes. He will have canoes on site for purchase, and will be available to answer questions on restoration, custom made craft, and he’ll be fine-tuning a boat on site.
Mark Catman, musician & craftsman, will be lacing birch bark into baskets,
miniature canoes, exquisite purses, and creels. Check out his hand carved strum boxes (amazing 3 string “banjos” made from cigar boxes) and with minor coaxing, hear his talent come to life.
And, of course, there’s always a canoe or kayak down the river. Lisa or Don Otey can set you up with that, too. Give ’em a ring at 677-3311 and tell ’em you heard about ’em here!
