It controls 75% of our parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), the \u201crest and digest\u201d part of our autonomic nervous system (ANS). When this tenth cranial nerve dominants over our sympathetic nervous system (SNS), the \u201cfight and flee\u201d part of our ANS, our body and mind enter a state of restoration and repair. As a result, the vagus nerve innervates and profoundly influences all the major organs of the body, including the heart, gut, brain, and lungs.<\/p>\n<p>This is why I\u2019ve dedicated a whole series to various concepts surrounding this critical and complex nerve. I\u2019ve explored:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>what the <a href=\"https:\/\/dr-lobisco.com\/what-is-the-vagus-nerve-vagal-tone\/\">vagus nerve<\/a> is and its <a href=\"https:\/\/dr-lobisco.com\/what-is-the-vagus-nerve-vagal-tone\/\">important<\/a> roles in managing body physiology and psychology<\/li>\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/dr-lobisco.com\/healing-trauma-through-the-vagus-nerve-the-polyvagal-theory-the-nervous-system-and-essential-oils\/\">polyvagal theory<\/a>, which is based on the vagus nerves effects on our coping with threats and stressors and offers an innovative approach to dealing with trauma<\/li>\n<li>how essential oils have <a href=\"https:\/\/dr-lobisco.com\/essential-oils-polyvagal-theory-vagus-nerve\/\">calming<\/a> effects on our PNS and enhance vagal tone (vagus nerve functioning)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now, in my <a href=\"https:\/\/dr-lobisco.com\/my-three-favorite-essential-oils-for-supporting-the-vagus-nerve\/\">latest<\/a> post and video in this series, I expand on how a few essential oils can support the vagus nerve and the polyvagal theory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dr-lobisco.com\/my-three-favorite-essential-oils-for-supporting-the-vagus-nerve\/\">Topics<\/a> include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The importance of good vagal tone which can be supported by calming essential oils<\/li>\n<li>Validating essential oils effects on the PNS through changes in Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and other parameters<\/li>\n<li>Three essential oils that support <a href=\"https:\/\/dr-lobisco.com\/what-is-the-vagus-nerve-vagal-tone\/\">vagal tone<\/a> including lavender, bergamot, and ylang ylang oil<\/li>\n<li>A review of studies on these oils that demonstrate how they change PNS through improving physiological responses<\/li>\n<li>Two honorable mentions (petitgrain oil and fir oils)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Through their impact on the PNS, these selected essential oils can act as vagus <a href=\"https:\/\/dr-lobisco.com\/essential-oils-polyvagal-theory-vagus-nerve\/\">nerve modulators<\/a> that favorably support the our physiology, psychology, and biochemistry.
