I\u2019m so glad.<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to my first blog at my new location on Saratoga.com.<\/p>\n<p>I have thoroughly enjoyed writing for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/living-well\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Living Well<\/a> and look forward to continuing to interact with all of you on my brand-new webpage.<\/p>\n<p>I will still focus my articles on wellness, but with an even sharper emphasis on healing the body, mind, and spirit holistically.<\/p>\n<p>This can best be done when we balance the desire for a healthy physical body with a positive mind and a sense of purpose.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Mind in Medicine<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is no doubt that the mind has a profound impact on the body. Looking at the <a href=\"https:\/\/nccih.nih.gov\/health\/placebo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">placebo effect<\/a>, the belief and expectation that an intervention will provide beneficial treatment outcomes, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed?term=%22Placebo%20Effect%22%5BMesh%5D%20AND%20%22Complementary%20Therapies%22%5BMajr%5D%20AND%20%28%22humans%22%5bMeSH%20Terms%5d%20AND%20%28Meta-Analysis%5bptyp%5d%20OR%20Review%5bptyp%5d%29%20OR%20systematic%5bsb%5d%20AND%20English%5blang%5d%20AND%20%222012\/09\/11%22%5bPDAT%5d%20%3A%20%222017\/09\/11%22%5bPDAT%5d%29&amp;cmd=DetailsSearch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">evidence of this<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This \u201cmind-body\u201d connection has been influencing our health throughout the ages. Now many modern day studies are <a href=\"http:\/\/dr-lobisco.com\/how-to-un-tox-the-modern-toxic-mind-why-you-should-consider-emotional-detox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demonstrating this<\/a> well accepted connection from ancient times. Perhaps this is why the field of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.semel.ucla.edu\/cousins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">psychoneuroimmunology<\/a>\u201d is emerging.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Always Look on the Bright Side of Life\u2026And Act On It!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It seems that all things considered, those who study the mind-body-health connection conclude there\u2019s a link between health outcomes and a happier state of mind. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5209342\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4161121\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3935764\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/articles.mercola.com\/sites\/articles\/archive\/2017\/01\/12\/optimism-promotes-longevity.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">4<\/a>) Furthermore \u201cNegative Nellies\u201d have been shown to fair worse in wellness results.\u00a0 A sunny disposition alone has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/heart-health\/optimism-and-your-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">linked in studies<\/a> to have a positive effect on blood pressure, heart disease, and survival.<\/p>\n<p>Still, measuring a \u201ctrait\u201d can have its challenges in defining its aspects and calculating it\u2019s\u00a0 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2941870\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">effect size.\u201d<\/a> \u00a0Some conflicting studies have led researchers to believe optimism is associated with desirable outcomes only when it encompasses a specific <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5112655\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">viewpoint<\/a> that influences action steps. In other words, many researchers hold that positive outlook alone isn\u2019t the determinant of health, or simply \u201cexpecting the best and doing nothing.\u201d Rather, it is a belief in better outcomes combined with utilizing beneficial resources, including social support, that influence results. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC1948078\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">5,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4161121\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">6<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2883261\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Importance of a Balanced, Happy Mind Vs. Unfortunately, living in our current \u201cDiet culture\u201d and obsession with body perfection can take people\u2019s sanity down, fast.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than focusing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/27834233\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on the<\/a> value of health that supports <a href=\"http:\/\/www.projecthope.org\/frequently-asked-questions.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">every member<\/a> of the global community, it appears the American culture has moved into \u201chealthism,\u201d where it becomes a moral stance of superiority. With this viewpoint, prejudices in those with different body shapes, fitness, and eating patterns can lead to becoming the following\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Diet crazed, weight obsessed, health fixated, and participating in the battle ground of \u201cfood wars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This does not create \u201chealth\u201d and can lead to orthorexia tendencies that places fixations with wellness and fitness over relationships and previously enjoyed activities.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, I\u2019ve started my series, \u201cDiet Crazed, Weight Obsessed, Health Fixated, and Food Wars?
