This is the concluding post within my series on holistic methods to support psychiatric disorders. Previous articles on various topics, including highlights on essential oils to support mental health, can be accessed <\/em>here<\/em><\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n Essential oils have been shown<\/a> in many human and experimental trials to calm psychological distress. Aromatherapy is known for soothing the mind and uplifting the spirits; however, therapeutic essential oils contain physical constituents that synergize for additional positive effects. These benefits include balancing hormones, mitigating the stress response<\/a>, and enhancing resilience<\/a>.<\/p>\n Essential oils’ mechanisms of action have been explored and are related to their hundreds of compounds exerting simultaneous and multiple effects<\/a> on various biochemical pathways. Essential oils\u2019 influences at the cellular level has also led to research exploring their potential for preserving and improving brain function. \u00a0For these reasons, I stated in my most recent post<\/a> that they have convincing evidence that they are among the most ancient \u201cnootrophics<\/a>\u201d we have.<\/p>\n In my current article, I conclude my series on essential oils for mental health. I discuss a few more oils that have brain-boosting benefits.
