Since 1978, stopping for a meal or drinks
\nat Gaffney’s has been a Saratoga Springs
\ntradition. Throughout the years, the dining
\nestablishment has grown from one bar
\nand restaurant to include two additional
\nbars: the Starting Gate and The Winners
\nCircle, which is the large outdoor dining
\nand garden area.<\/p>\n
This year, Gaffney’s will continue to
\nexpand its offerings, having recently secured
\napproval to build an enclosed patio
\narea off of the Starting Gate bar area.
\nThat space is currently used for some
\nseating during the good weather months,
\nbut is not enclosed.<\/p>\n
Entrepreneur John Baker has owned Gaffney’s since 1982 and the Gaffney building since 1986. He said the enclosed patio space, which will be situated at the outdoor corner of the restaurant, will enable Gaffney’s to provide a variety of services for its patrons.<\/p>\n
“It is a very busy corner,” said Baker. “Everybody likes to sit there and watch the world go by. The new space will be airconditioned and heated and available all seasons. The patio walls will be glass, so it will feel open like it does in the summer and will have an outdoor feel. However, the enclosed space will also protect guests from factors such as noise, rain, and wind.”<\/p>\n
The addition will also increase the restaurant’s space. Baker estimated the patio is about 1,000 square feet and will be able to situate 40-50 people for a sit-down meals.<\/p>\n
“We do a lot of catering, so this will give us a separate area for occasions like showers and office parties,” said Baker.<\/p>\n
Construction is scheduled to start in February and is expected to be complete by early May.<\/p>\n
Architect Tom Frost created the plans and Bonacio Construction will rebuild the patio area. Construction will not impact much of Gaffney’s outdoor space, including The Winner’s Circle outdoor bar.<\/p>\n
Gaffney’s is located at 16 Caroline St. in Saratoga Springs. Under Chef Kevin Myers, now with the restaurant for 17 years, Gaffney’s presents a wide array of American cuisine as well as many dishes from different cultures and ethnic origins.<\/p>\n
