The 26th annual Stewart’s Shops’ Holiday
\nMatch program again topped the $1
\nmillion dollar mark in contributions for
\nlocal children’s charities.<\/p>\n
The company announced that Stewart’s
\ncustomers donated $672,000. Stewart’s
\nShops is matching that amount,
\nwith a total of over $1.34 milllion to be
\ndistributed in March.<\/p>\n
“These are difficult times for many
\nfamilies and despite the economic challenges
\nwe are always impressed with the
\ngenerosity of our customers,” said Susan
\nDake, Stewart’s Foundation president.<\/p>\n
The Holiday Match program is based on customers making contributions in the 324 Stewart’s Shops, located in upstate New York and western Vermont, from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Day. Stewart’s then matches all individual customer donations.<\/p>\n
The money raised benefits children’s organizations directly within the communities where Stewart’s Shops are located.<\/p>\n
There are no administrative costs and 100 percent of the funds collected and matched benefit the communities that have made this program so successful.<\/p>\n
After this year’s funds are distributed, over $17 million will have been allocated since the program’s inception in 1986, officials said.<\/p>\n
The $672,000 that Stewart’s is matching is about 30 percent of the $2.25 million donations budget for Stewart’s Shops in 2013.<\/p>\n
“We continue to see many organizations struggle as fewer companies are able to help with funding. We are fortunate to be in a position to assist thousands of local organizations this year, following our company theme that We Are Closer to You,” said Dake.<\/p>\n
Children’s charities can still apply for funding from the Holiday Match Program. Applications are available in all Stewart’s Shops or online at www.stewartsshops.com. Applications must be submitted or postmarked by Jan. 31 to be considered for funding.<\/p>\n
