{"id":14003,"date":"2013-11-07T19:22:05","date_gmt":"2013-11-08T00:22:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2013\/11\/british-womans-gift-sparks-relationship-between-saratoga-and-uk-city-of-chester.html"},"modified":"2017-11-08T13:53:29","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T18:53:29","slug":"british-womans-gift-sparks-relationship-between-saratoga-and-uk-city-of-chester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2013\/11\/british-womans-gift-sparks-relationship-between-saratoga-and-uk-city-of-chester\/","title":{"rendered":"British Woman&#8217;s Gift Sparks Relationship Between Saratoga And UK City Of Chester"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img-left\">\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"english women gives.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2013\/11\/english20women20gives.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"231\" class=\"alignleft\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"img-caption\">Two prints of racing scenes in Chester, England, are displayed by officials including Charles Wait, center, and to his left Danny Wright, a Chester native and Saratoga exercise rider\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The gift of two limited-edition prints of racing<br \/>\nscenes in Chester, England, the oldest horse racing<br \/>\ntrack in the United Kingdom, has sparked a new relationship<br \/>\nbetween Chester and Saratoga Springs.<\/p>\n<p>During her visit to Saratoga in the fall of 2012,<br \/>\nKay Kent, the director of strategic partnerships<br \/>\nat the University of Chester and Chair of the<br \/>\nCheshire Racing Hub, was given a tour of the city,<br \/>\nthe race course and numerous historic buildings.<br \/>\nIt was during this trip that she learned of the<br \/>\nplans to celebrate the 150th anniversary of racing<br \/>\nin 2013, according to city officials.<\/p>\n<p>Upon returning home to England, Kent<br \/>\nworked with Chester, England, to send an anniversary<br \/>\ngift &#8211; the two prints &#8211; to Saratoga<br \/>\nSprings to mark the anniversary. <\/p>\n<p>In addition to both cities holding the title of oldest horseracing track in their respective countries, the Saratoga Springs racing community has long been home to a number of exercise riders who are natives of Chester and other United Kingdom cities.<\/p>\n<p>The limited-edition prints were presented to the members of the Saratoga 150 Committee and Mayor Scott Johnson, were formally accepted by the Saratoga Springs City Council, and are on permanent public display in the Saratoga Springs City Center.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Wait, chairman of the 150 Committee, indicated that the city of Saratoga Springs would like to reciprocate the gesture in recognition of the Chester celebration of the 475th anniversary of horse racing there in 2014.
