A relative newcomer to the business, Jean
\nand Kevin Knobloch’s N-Hance wood refinishing
\nfranchise advanced quickly.<\/p>\n

The local franchise moved from companywide Rookie of the Year in 2012 to Franchisee
\nof the Year in 2013. This year, it added the
\nSaratoga market to its franchise area, according
\nto Kevin Knobloch. It is based in Glens Falls.
\nThe company now covers Albany, Fulton,
\nMontgomery, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Warren
\nand Washington Saratoga Counties.<\/p>\n

The company has a patented approach and
\ntechnique to wood refinishing that Knobloch
\nsaid is environmentally friendly and quick
\nfor refinishing wood, particularly floors and
\nkitchen cabinets. The workers use chemicals
\nto break down the old finish and open the pores
\nof the wood. Then they stain, seal and dry the
\nwood using an ultra-violet curing technique,
\nhe explained.<\/p>\n

There is no sanding and, therefore, no dust,
\nand workers are usually in and out in one day,
\nhe said.
\nKnobloch claims 100 percent customer
\nsatisfaction, according to random surveys by
\nthe parent corporation.<\/p>\n

Unless the wood suffers from “cupping,”
\ndeep depressions usually from water damage,
\nN-Hance can probably give the wood a fine
\nfinish. They can work with cork, bamboo, or
\nlaminated surfaces, as well as solid wood.
\nTypically, N-Hance can do a 1,000-squarefoot
\nhouse or business in two days, he said.<\/p>\n

All the furniture gets moved to one side of the
\nroom (by the customer or, for an extra fee, by
\nthe refi nishers) and the other half is refinished.
\nThe next day, the furniture can be moved to the
\nfinished half of the rooms and the rest of the
\nfloor can be re-finished.<\/p>\n

Knobloch estimated that 65 percent of their
\nwork involves refinishing kitchen cabinets. The
\nrest is floors. They have both residential and
\ncommercial customers.<\/p>\n

Knobloch said his company provides “a great
\nsolution” for restaurants and bars because they
\ncan come in after closing, refinish the dance
\nfloor, bar or other wood surfaces, and have
\neverything ready by the time the business is
\nset to open the next day.<\/p>\n

The local franchise is one of 325 N-Hance in
\nthe United States and Canada. The company
\nis a sister division of Chem-Dry Carpet Cleaners
\nand is headquartered in Logan, Utah and
\nNashville, Tenn.<\/p>\n

There are eight employees at the Glens Falls
\nshop, including Jean and Kevin Knobloch and
\ntheir daughter, Jamie Smith. Jean Knobloch
\nis CEO and Kevin is operations and sales
\nmanager. Jamie is the office receptionist and
\ncustomer service representative.<\/p>\n

Before moving up north, Knobloch spent about 30 years in construction management
\nand as an owner’s representative in New York
\nCity and the Hamptons on Long Island. The
\nfamily had a camp on Great Sacandaga Lake
\nand got to know the area. He said they were
\nattracted to Glens Falls by “the quality of life.”<\/p>\n

N-Hance has its office and warehouse at 26
\nLogan Ave. in Glens Falls. However, Knobloch
\nsaid, most of their consulting is done at customer’s
\nhomes or businesses. The telephone
