Halfmoon Cellars in Clifton Park is opening
\na new wine tasting room in Saratoga
\nSprings this month.<\/p>\n

The winery already operates in Halfmoon,
\nthe namesake of the company. The owners,
\nAlison Bauder and John Reyes, are excited
\nfor the opportunity to expand into to
\nSaratoga Springs.<\/p>\n

“We’re from this area and we love the atmosphere
\nof Saratoga” said Reyes. “They’ve
\ndone a great job of expanding the city. I
\nthink we’ll have a lot of walk-in traffic, a lot
\nof people who are going to be interested in
\ncoming to do a wine tasting before heading
\noff to the track.”<\/p>\n

Halfmoon Cellars, at 24 Caroline St., will
\njoin the lively restaurant and bar scene in
\nSaratoga.<\/p>\n

Reyes is an IT professional living in
\nHalfmoon. He works with several companies
\nincluding Host Rocket, a web hosting
\ncompany, and ViaTalk, a VOIP provider.
\nThe Albany Business Review named him
\none of the area’s “40 Under Forty” business
\npeople.<\/p>\n

Reyes and his CFO, Bauder, started
\nwinemaking as a hobby. After a few years,
\nthey decided to take their success with
\ntheir IT businesses and use it to launch an
\narea winery.<\/p>\n

The winery receives grapes from the
\nSuisan Valley in California, produced by a
\nfamily that has been in the wine business
\nfor almost 100 years. Reyes and Bauder
\nmake trips to California to see how their
\ngrapes are produced. The grapes then make
\ntheir way to Albany, where they are made
\ninto wine.<\/p>\n

Halfmoon Cellars produced its first vintage
\nin 2012, a chardonnay. Light gold in
\ncolor, the chardonnay has complex aromas
\nof ripe apple, pear and citrus, with hints of
\nvanilla and nutmeg.<\/p>\n

The winery will be introducing several
\nmore wines to their lineup this year including
\na cabernet sauvignon, a merlot, another
\nchardonnay and a reisling.<\/p>\n

The company hopes to add New York
\nsourced grapes to their production in the
\nfuture.<\/p>\n

The Caroline Street location will feature
\na tasting room, where people can sample
\nwines. Customers will be able to purchase
\nbottles. A variety of specially paired items
\nsuch as cheese and crackers will be available
\nas well.<\/p>\n

“We’ll have things like wine and cheese
\npaired together if people just want to purchase
\nthem and take them over to the park
\nfor a picnic” said Reyes.<\/p>\n

\nbegin, Reyes and Bauder are excited for a
\nsuccessful start to their business. For
