New York state’s community of practicing
\narchitects and academics will gather for a
\ndesign conference sponsored by the American
\nInstitute of Architects New York State (AIANYS)
\nfrom Oct. 9-11 at the Saratoga City Center
\nin Saratoga Springs.<\/p>\n
Participants will explore changes taking
\nplace in the practice of architecture and the
\ninnovative design work these changes are
\ninspiring locally and globally.
\nRegistration is open.<\/p>\n
“New practice methodologies, such as
\nresearch- and evidence-based design, are
\ntransforming the profession and making our
\nwork more relevant to the needs of clients and
\nthe public,” said AIANYS President Raymond
\nBeeler, AIA. “This is happening in both the
\nworlds of practice and in the schools of architecture
\nand we look forward to the opportunity
\nto learn from each other at this conference.”<\/p>\n
The featured keynote speakers are all
\nleaders in the development of new practice
\nmethodologies and include Corie Sharples,
\nAIA, principal, SHoP Architects; Scott Simpson,
\nFAIA, principal, Jacob Global Buildings; and
\nRichard Maimon, FAIA, principal, KieranTimberlake.
\nStephen Chung, AIA, host of the new
\ntravel and architecture show “Cool Spaces” on
\nPBS, will be screening his show and discussing
\nits impact on the public’s perception of the
\nprofession.<\/p>\n
The two-and-a-half day conference will
\ngive licensed architects, professors, students,
\nemerging professionals and associates throughout
\nthe state an immersion in new services
\nthat are being offered and in the design work
\nthat these new services make possible. The
\nconference’s main goal is to impart practical
\nand theoretical knowledge that will allow attendees to expand the areas of practice they
\nengage in and do more relevant and innovative
\ndesign work.<\/p>\n
“This design conference will afford New York
\nstate’s outstanding practicing architects and
\nacademics the opportunity to come together to
\nexchange ideas and examine how the profession
\nis evolving and further enhancing people’s
\nquality of life,” said AIANYS Executive Director
\nGeorgi Ann Bailey.<\/p>\n
In addition to seminars, keynotes and a
\ndesign awards dinner, participants can learn
\nabout the latest in materials, services and
\ntechnologies at the product showcase on
\nFriday, Oct. 10. Attendees can also make an
\nappointment with some exhibitors to discuss
\nspecific project needs one-on-one.<\/p>\n
Continuing education seminars will be held
\nthroughout the conference and cover topics
\nincluding: 3-D Printing; Zero Energy Homes;
\nResilient, Accessible Design: Waterfront Edge
\nDesign Guidelines & Designing for Disaster;
\nand Cross-Profession Practices: Mixing-up the
\nAcademy with Industry.<\/p>\n

The American Institute of Architects New
