{"id":15502,"date":"2014-08-07T14:57:10","date_gmt":"2014-08-07T18:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2014\/08\/glamour-paws-does-pet-grooming.html"},"modified":"2014-08-07T14:57:10","modified_gmt":"2014-08-07T18:57:10","slug":"glamour-paws-does-pet-grooming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2014\/08\/glamour-paws-does-pet-grooming\/","title":{"rendered":"Glamour Paws Does Pet Grooming And Helps Ensure They Maintain Healthy Skin"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img-left\">\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"glammerpaws-wm.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2014\/08\/glammerpaws-wm.jpg\" class=\"alignleft\" height=\"222\" width=\"300\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"img-caption\">Andrea Ott says she enjoys watching animals prance out of her salon, Glamour Paws, aware of having been pampered to a spiffy new image.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>By Barbara Brewer La Mere<\/p>\n<p>Fourteen years ago, Andrea Ott was a<br \/>\ndental hygienist looking for a career change.<br \/>\nShe&#8217;d always loved animals, so she decided to<br \/>\ngo to animal grooming school in Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p>New York state does not require approved<br \/>\ntraining for animal groomers, so Ott is proud<br \/>\nof having that professional training that she<br \/>\nsaid sets her apart from many other groomers.<\/p>\n<p>She operated a grooming business in<br \/>\nJohnstown, called Shampoodles, for seven<br \/>\nyears, but lost that location due to flooding.<br \/>\nThree months ago, she opened Glamour<br \/>\nPaws at 426 Maple Ave. in Saratoga Springs.<\/p>\n<p>Ott&#8217;s animal customers are primarily dogs,<br \/>\nthough she said cats, mostly longhairs like<br \/>\nPersians and Himalayans, do comprise 10-15<br \/>\npercent of her customer base. She has even<br \/>\ngroomed rabbits and one guinea pig.<\/p>\n<p>Ott said canine customers come in all<br \/>\nsizes, from various miniatures on up to Newfoundlands<br \/>\nand Great Pyrenees. Grooming<br \/>\nis not merely an activity to improve the way<br \/>\nan animal looks, but also serves to unmat the fur of long-haired breeds and helps to<br \/>\nprevent skin infections.<\/p>\n<p>Ott noted that even owners who truly love<br \/>\nand care about their pets sometimes just run<br \/>\nout of time to keep them properly groomed.<br \/>\nShe enjoys watching animals prance out of<br \/>\nthe salon, aware of having been pampered<br \/>\nto a spiffy new image.<\/p>\n<p>Ott used to work in veterinarians&#8217; offices,<br \/>\nso she is able to educate pet owners regarding<br \/>\naspects of animal health care. She also<br \/>\ncarries a boutique line of leashes, brushes<br \/>\nand other grooming aids.<\/p>\n<p>Ott performs one pet&#8217;s grooming activities<br \/>\nfrom start to finish in the course of a<br \/>\nsingle scheduled appointment, rather than<br \/>\nsituations where a pet has to be left at the<br \/>\ngroomer&#8217;s until such time as the groomer can<br \/>\nsqueeze that animal into a packed schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Usual hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 9<br \/>\na.m. to 4 p.m. Evening appointments may<br \/>\nbe possible after Oct. 1.
