Construction started recently on F.W. Webb’s new warehouse in the town of Ballston Spa that will provide an extra 26,000 square feet of construction space\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

F.W. Webb, a distributor of plumbing and heating
\nsupplies, is gradually expanding its footprint
\nin Ballston Spa.<\/p>\n

The company began last February with an
\noutlet catering to contractors. In August, they
\nopened a retail outlet with working displays, also
\ntargeted mainly at contractors but open to everyone.
\nConstruction just began on a warehouse.<\/p>\n

The company already has a “clean storage
\nfacility” for materials destined for the Global-
\nFoundries construction project in Malta. The
\nfacility is filtered so that dust cannot settle on
\nthe equipment stored inside.<\/p>\n

Company officials said when everything is
\ncompleted–by the end of the year, weather
\npermitting–Webb will have more than 40,000
\nsquare feet of sales and storage space at 1 Mc-
\nCrea Hill Road, near Route 50, just south of the
\nTown of Ballston Spa.<\/p>\n

The new warehouse will be 26,000 square feet.
\nGreenleaf Construction of Leominster, Mass.,
\nis doing the construction.<\/p>\n

Currently, the company has 10 employees at
\nits Ballston Spa facility and expects to hire four
\nor five more in the next few months.
\n“It’s a really exciting time to be up here,” said
\nMike Bofino, manager of the new facility. “The
\ncommunity is great and has been very welcoming.”
\nHe said home and commercial construction is
\nbooming and, with it, demand for the plumbing,
\nheating, and air conditioning equipment F.W.
\nWebb sells.<\/p>\n

“Saratoga County is kind of jumping right
\nnow,” he said. He sees a growing market of
\ncontractors and small businesses. Homeowners
\nand do-it-yourselfers are also welcome. “They
\nare not really our target but we want to help the
\ncommunity and its growth.”<\/p>\n

The new retail outlet is “doing great, with a lot
\nof traffic,” according to Bofino. It was designed
\nas “a showpiece for Webb.” Displays include
\nworking 30 showerheads, 25 working faucets,
\nplus working bathtubs and steamrooms.<\/p>\n

Bofino said Webb tries to concentrate on providing
\nservice, including free delivery and plenty
\nof advice. Their personnel will help design a bathroom
\nor kitchen, for example. But the big push
\nis helping contractors move forward, he said.
\nWebb provides training to help contractors
\ndesign conversions of oil systems to gas, install
\nand maintain high efficiency water heaters and
\nother appliances, and utilize products that meet
\nnew standards for lead-free plumbing.<\/p>\n

“We do sell solar and geothermal equipment,
\nbut it’s not really our focus,” he said. The company’s
\n“bread and butter” is making traditional
\nequipment more efficient.<\/p>\n

Bofino previously worked as operations manager
\nof Webb’s Albany facility before taking on the
\nBallston Spa facility six months ago. He has been
\nwith the Webb company for eight years, most of
\nthe time, in Albany.<\/p>\n

So far, he has found relationships with the
\ntown, amicable. He said that the town officials
\nhave been good in relation to construction and
\nreadily give advice and direction on such matters
\nas landscaping.<\/p>\n

The Ballston Spa center is the sixth New York
\nstate location for F.W. Webb. They have 35 locations
\nin the Northeast.
