Sean Lee, proprietor for seven years of
\nHalfmoon Sandwich and Salad Shop on
\nRoute 9, has lived in the vicinity of the former
\nJonesville General Store for most of that time.<\/p>\n

He heard stories about the location having
\nbeen a pizzeria and video rental store. With a
\nbuilding constructed in 1853, he’s even heard
\nstories from locals who used to go to the location
\nwith their wagons to buy hay pitched
\ndown from its hayloft.<\/p>\n

Lee had an idea, however, that the location
\nat 989 Main St. in Jonesville would make a
\ngreat neighborhood restaurant. Lee said the
\nbuilding had “lots of character and lots of
\nhistory,” and bought it with the idea of creating
\na community dining venue offering “good
\nflavor, good food, and good drinks” and “really
\ngood service.”<\/p>\n

He expected an early September opening
\nfor Rocco’s at the Jonesville Store.
\nMost of the renovations on the site have
\nbeen cosmetic. Oak wainscoting was applied
\nto the walls, with wallpaper on the
\nupper walls to retain an 1800’s feel. The bar
\ninstalled is oak as well. The wooden floors
\nwere refinished.<\/p>\n

The restaurant will offer primarily American
\nfare, with steaks, chops, fish, and rack
\nof lamb, along with pasta dishes. Homemade
\nmeatballs will be made with ricotta to keep
\nthem really moist. There will be a mozzarella
\nencarozza appetizer that features mozzarella
\nsticks wrapped in bread, dipped in bread
\ncrumbs and deep fried, served with tomato
\nsauce.<\/p>\n

Lee’s mother’s cheesecake recipe made
\nthe dessert menu, and he promises this is
\na wonderfully smooth confection. Lee will
\nbe offering a wine selection that includes
\n“30 bottles under $30″ so that, he says, a
\nmiddle-of-the-week dinner out doesn’t stretch
\nhousehold budgets too extensively.”<\/p>\n

Seating capacity will be 50, for dinner
\nonly, open 4-9 or 10 p.m. with the exception
\nof a Sunday brunch. Sundays, the restaurant
\nwill be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Rocco’s will be
\nclosed Mondays. Orders can be called in for
\nmeals to go. The phone number is 406-5251.
