She<br \/>\ngraduated from Fashion Institute of Technology<br \/>\nand worked as a handbag designer for several<br \/>\nlabels including Chanel, Bebe, and Ralph Lauren<br \/>\nbefore launching her own line. Her passion<br \/>\nfor fashion led to opening the store, she said.<br \/>\nDeRocker also owns Bride and Gown in<br \/>\nGlens Falls.<\/p>\n<p>Saratoga Closet, at 38 Van Dam St., carries<br \/>\nluxury brands including Gucci, Prada, Jimmy<br \/>\nChoo and Manolo Blahnik.<\/p>\n<p>The store sells tops and pants, dresses and<br \/>\nskirts, handbags and other leather goods, shoes,<br \/>\ncoats and jackets, and fine jewelry. Saratoga<br \/>\nCloset also features a bridal section of wellcrafted<br \/>\ngowns from luxury retailers, although<br \/>\nthe majority of the bridal line is at her Glens<br \/>\nFalls store.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret Newman creates jewelry for the<br \/>\nstore. The 81-year-old has more than 10,000<br \/>\npieces on display. Her jewelry includes gold,<br \/>\nsilver, and precious gem luxury goods.<br \/>\nDeRocker sources items from fashion stylists<br \/>\nin New York City, where she lived for 10<br \/>\nyears. She also goes to consignment shops to<br \/>\nfind items.<\/p>\n<p>Back at her store, DeRocker prices everything<br \/>\nto sell. Customers can get a discount on luxury<br \/>\nitems here that they cannot get at other places.<br \/>\n&#8220;There&#8217;s something for everybody here,<br \/>\nwhether it&#8217;s a $5 J Crew wallet or a $1,000 purse,&#8221;<br \/>\nshe said.<\/p>\n<p>DeRocker has a team she says is very knowledgeable<br \/>\nabout the fashion industry working<br \/>\nwith her at the store. &#8220;The key to success is<br \/>\ncustomer service,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Soon, she plans to open another bridal store<br \/>\nin Boston, featuring luxury gowns at deep discounts,<br \/>\nsimilar to what she offers at her Glens<br \/>\nFalls location.<br \/>\n&#8220;Most bridal stores only carry three brands.<br \/>\nWe carry 85,&#8221; she said.
