{"id":15654,"date":"2014-09-11T18:00:38","date_gmt":"2014-09-11T22:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2014\/09\/businesses-pool-funds-for-traffic-study.html"},"modified":"2014-09-11T18:00:38","modified_gmt":"2014-09-11T22:00:38","slug":"businesses-pool-funds-for-traffic-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2014\/09\/businesses-pool-funds-for-traffic-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Businesses Pool Funds For Traffic Study Of Northway Corridor In Area Of Exit 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img-left\">\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2014\/09\/traffic-study-wm.jpg\" alt=\"traffic-study-wm.jpg\" class=\"alignleft\" height=\"222\" width=\"300\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"img-caption\">A $500,000 study will examine traffic in an effort to evaluate the current and predicted traffic and transportation needs, especially this area around Northway Exit 12\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Based upon a partnership between<br \/>\nNational Grid, regional business leaders<br \/>\nand government officials, the Center for<br \/>\nEconomic Growth (CEG) announced that<br \/>\na $500,000 traffic study will be undertaken<br \/>\nin an effort to evaluate the current<br \/>\nand predicted traffic and transportation<br \/>\nneeds of Saratoga County.<\/p>\n<p>With a specific focus on the Northway<br \/>\ncorridor and local roads in and around<br \/>\nMalta and Stillwater, the study is intended<br \/>\nto give federal, state and local<br \/>\nofficials updated data and traffic information<br \/>\nin order to better understand<br \/>\nthe infrastructure needs associated with<br \/>\nprojected growth and development in<br \/>\nSaratoga County, CEG officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The study will be administered by CEG<br \/>\nwith project management and technical<br \/>\nassistance from the Capital District<br \/>\nTransportation Committee (CDTC).<\/p>\n<p>National Grid will fund up to $250,000<br \/>\nof the study through its Strategic Economic<br \/>\nDevelopment grant program. The<br \/>\nremaining funds will come from contributions<br \/>\nby Saratoga County, the Town<br \/>\nof Malta, the Town of Stillwater, Global<br \/>\nFoundries and the Saratoga County IDA.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the arrangement comes<br \/>\nfrom an agreement developed by the<br \/>\nattendees of U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko&#8217;s<br \/>\nFramework for Success meetings, which<br \/>\nare held quarterly in an effort to foster a<br \/>\ndialogue among business and government<br \/>\nofficials in Saratoga County.<\/p>\n<p>These meetings, which CEG officials<br \/>\nsaid are regularly attended by 20 to 30<br \/>\npeople, stress the importance of sound<br \/>\nplanning and open communication among<br \/>\nour region&#8217;s varied interests. Tonko has<br \/>\nsaid such meetings are necessary for<br \/>\nSaratoga County and the Capital District<br \/>\nto compete in a global race for investments<br \/>\nin hi-tech related businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For our region to truly maintain its<br \/>\ncompetitive edge, we must work together<br \/>\nand develop smart, sensible and sustainable<br \/>\nplans and policies that guide our<br \/>\ngrowth and development, support existing<br \/>\nbusinesses and attract new investments,&#8221;<br \/>\nsaid Tonko. &#8220;This traffic study<br \/>\nwill provide Saratoga County and New<br \/>\nYork state with the critical data it needs to make cost effective decisions about the<br \/>\ninfrastructure needs of our community. I<br \/>\napplaud National Grid for their financial<br \/>\ncommitment and CEG and the CDTC for<br \/>\nmaking this study a reality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In order to further advance our<br \/>\neconomic momentum and Tech Valley&#8217;s<br \/>\nstanding as a global destination for<br \/>\ninvestment, we must have the right infrastructure<br \/>\nin place, where it&#8217;s needed,<br \/>\nat the right time and cost,&#8221; said CEG<br \/>\nPresident and CEO F. Michael Tucker.<br \/>\n&#8220;At CEG, infrastructure is one of our key<br \/>\npillars of focus, and we are grateful to<br \/>\nCongressman Tonko for facilitating this<br \/>\nimportant project.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Investment in infrastructure, from<br \/>\nelectricity to roadways, is vitally important<br \/>\nto growing our local economy,&#8221; said<br \/>\nCheri Warren, senior vice president of<br \/>\nasset management for National Grid. &#8220;The<br \/>\nsuccess of National Grid is tied closely to<br \/>\nthe success of the communities we serve.<br \/>\nBy supporting this study we are strategically<br \/>\npartnering with those we serve to<br \/>\nensure that the Greater Capital Region<br \/>\nis ready for continued growth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tom Caulfield, senior vice president<br \/>\nand general manager of Fab 8, Global-<br \/>\nFoundries, said as the region grows &#8220;it<br \/>\nis important that we work together to<br \/>\nnot only address immediate needs, but<br \/>\ndevelop comprehensive, forward thinking<br \/>\nstrategies that address the needs of the<br \/>\nentire region.
