In 1995, two years after graduating college,
\nKimberly Paone and her husband, Joseph
\nPaone, established Paone Architecture
\nPC, located on Route 9P near Saratoga Lake.<\/p>\n

Paone, raised in Queensbury and educated
\nat the New York Institute of Technology
\nin Old Westbury, L.I., has a Bachelor of
\nFine Arts degree in interior design and does
\nthe interior design work for the firm. Her
\nhusband and his brother, John, who joined
\nthe firm a few years later, are the architects.<\/p>\n

“I enjoy color, creativity, creating spaces
\nfor people,” she said. But, as reality of the
\nbusiness set in, she also needs to spend
\nmuch of her time in office management
\nthese days.<\/p>\n

“I am the type of individual who will do
\nwhatever is necessary to succeed,” she said.
\n“When you’re young, you can conquer
\nanything,” she recalled, “then reality sets in.”<\/p>\n

She taught herself how to use QuickBooks
\nand began networking with accountants,
\ntax experts, local contractors and other
\nspecialists, and became familiar with the
\nlaws, regulations and codes that control the
\ncompany’s work.<\/p>\n

The members of the three-person firm
\nwork very efficiently together as a team and
\nwith clients, she finds. And she is largely the
\nglue that holds it all together. In addition,
\nshe and her husband are raising two sons,
\nnow teenagers.
\nShe also finds time to garden, read, bicycle,
\nand network with other women in
\nbusiness. “I do have a very busy life. I love
\nto do everything. It’s hard for me to say ‘no,’
\n” she said.<\/p>\n

Her design work ranges from creating the
\ninteriors of high-end projects to helping pick
\nout the best color for a repainting job.
\nThe firm’s projects include residential,
\ncommercial, industrial and medical buildings,
\nthroughout the Capital Region and
\ninto the Adirondacks. She referred to one
\n“perpetual job,” a medical office the Paones
\ndesigned in 2001, refurbished in 2011. Her
\ncompany is now designing an expansion.<\/p>\n

She is also working on two projects at
\nSkidmore College. Examples of Paone designed
\nbuildings, including the couple’s
\nhome on Saratoga Lake, are included on the
\nfirm’s website, www.PaoneArchitecture.com.<\/p>\n

Paone finds that the field of architecture
\nis “very unpredictable,” with the volume of
\nwork rising and falling. Still, they are able to
\nmake time to take on and work with student
\ninterns from local high schools and colleges.<\/p>\n

Her advice to other woman contemplating
\nstarting businesses of their own: “Do it with
\nconfidence but know that you will constantly
