Owning a small business can be challenging,
\nespecially when it competes with large national
\ncompanies. Seeley Office Systems is one such
\nbusiness: a local office supply company that
\nunderstands what it takes to remain competitive.<\/p>\n

Seeley Office Systems is a family owned business
\nthat has been based in Glens Falls for more
\nthan 30 years. Tim Seeley left his position at Xerox
\nto start the company. The business is now in its
\nsecond generation, with Tim Seeley Jr. as vice
\npresident of sales.<\/p>\n

The company has a catalog of more than 40,000
\noffice supplies. Megan Reising, marketing director
\nfor the company and fianc\u00e9 to Tim Seeley, said
\nseveral employees have worked there more than
\n10 years and have the entire catalog memorized.
\nCustomers aren’t going to get that kind of
\nexpertise at a “big box” store, said Reising.<\/p>\n

The company serves Washington, Warren,
\nand Saratoga counties and maintains long term
\nfriendships with many customers. “We have saturated
\nthis market. We know all the customers by
\nname,” said Reising.<\/p>\n

Still, Reising is noticing some disturbing trends
\nin the office supply market.
\n“A trend we are noticing is that competitors will
\nstart their products at a really low price, almost a
\nprice that you can’t refuse,” she said. “And then
\nonce they have you in, they start increasing their
\nprices. They do it so small people usually don’t
\nnotice it is happening.”<\/p>\n

Reising said Seeley Office Systems maintains
\nstable prices on all of their items. “What you see
\nis what you get,” said Reising.<\/p>\n

Since Seeley is unable to compete with big box
\nstores like W.B. Mason and Staples on prices, they
\nrely on building strong relationships with customers.
\nOne of their techniques is to use the same
\nrepresentative to deliver products each time.<\/p>\n

Seeley Office Systems offers a variety of ways
\nfor customers to order products. For customers
\nwho want convenience, online ordering is an
\noption. The company will also send representatives
\nto the client’s location, where they can help
\ncustomize a list that will meet the client’s needs.
\nFor customers who need their products fast,
\nSeeley offers overnight shipping.<\/p>\n

“Our success comes from the loyalty and the
\ncustomer service we provide” said Reising.
\nThe company recently underwent a marketing
\nchange, with a new logo being unveiled for the
\nbusiness, said Reising.<\/p>\n
