SUNY Adirondack is offering a one-year
\nEntrepreneurship and Business Management
\ncertificate program intended for
\nthose who desire to enter business immediately
\nupon graduation or who are
\ncurrently employed and who seek to obtain
\nformal education in the field of business to
\nenhance their prospects for employment
\nand promotion.<\/p>\n
Officials said the program also supports
\nthose who seek to own and operate their
\nown businesses or go into an existing family
\nbusiness.<\/p>\n
The coursework required for the certificate
\nprogram prepares students for employment
\nin a broad range of business fields and
\nprovides individuals with the knowledge
\nand skills to assist in various management
\nfunctions, according to the college.<\/p>\n
“This program is a reflection of the trend
\nthat has developed across the country:
\nmore and more people want to start their
\nown businesses,” said A. Nicholas Buttino,
\nchairman of SUNY Adirondack’s Business
\nDivision. “We want to help satisfy our students’
\ndreams of making it on their own, and this program will give them the tools
\nto do that.”<\/p>\n
Statistics from the New York State Department
\nof Labor indicate that median
\nweekly earnings in 2011 were 10.43 percent
\nhigher for individuals with some college as
\ncompared with individuals with only a high
\nschool diploma or GED. Students earning
\ndegrees in engineering, science, medicine,
\ninformation technology and technology, as
\nwell as students completing AAS degrees
\nin media arts and culinary arts, may seek
\nto start businesses and obtain a formal
\neducation in business.<\/p>\n
Officials said the program will be desirable
\nto students currently engaged in local
\nfamily businesses who are unable to attend
\ncollege for two full years of academic studies
\nand who wish to take on more challenging
\nroles and responsibilities within the
\nfamily business.<\/p>\n
