An Albany chiropractic practice has expanded
\ninto Saratoga Springs with an office
\non Broadway.<\/p>\n

Saratoga Chiropractic opened on the first
\nfloor of 376 Broadway. Leading the office is Dr.
\nJaclyn Purcell, a native of Guilderland who now
\ncalls the Spa City home.<\/p>\n

Dr. Purcell said the practice serves a wide
\nrange of patients, including infants, pregnant
\nwomen and athletes. She offers classic chiropractic
\nadjustments as well as more gentle
\ntechniques such as Activator adjusting, SOT
\n(Sacro Occipital Technique) blocking and
\nflexion-distraction therapy.
\n“I see anything from people with back pain
\nand headaches to healthy athletes who want
\nto stay well,” she said.<\/p>\n

Saratoga Chiropractic is an extension of
\nMedwin Chiropractic, the Albany practice of
\nDr. Kerstin Medwin. Purcell began working
\nwith Medwin, a friend for the past decade, in
\nFebruary. She now spends two days a week
\nat Medwin Chiropractic–which is part of
\nAlbany Total Wellness, a health care cooperative
\non Everett Road–and three days a week
\nbuilding the practice in Saratoga Springs. She
\nsees patients in Saratoga Springs on Mondays,
\nTuesdays and Fridays.<\/p>\n

The expectation is that starting next spring, Purcell will devote all of her time to
\nthe Saratoga office. At the moment, she is the
\nonly employee of Saratoga Chiropractic. Appointments
\nand billing are handled in Albany.
\n“The goal in the future is to grow and have
\nemployees in Saratoga but right now it is not
\nnecessary so it is just me up here,” she said.<\/p>\n

Purcell graduated from Siena College in
\nLoudonville, and then moved to Seneca Falls
\nto attend New York Chiropractic College. Her
\nnext stop was Westchester, where she practiced
\nfor a short time before moving to Brooklyn. For
\nthree years she ran an office in Crown Heights.
\nBut she and her husband, who is also from
\nGuilderland, wanted to return to the Capital
\nRegion. They chose Saratoga Springs because
\nthey had been married there, and liked the city,
\nits culture and people.
\n“I feel like I am home here,” she said.<\/p>\n

During their years of friendship, Purcell
\nand Medwin had often talked about working
\ntogether some day. Purcell’s return to the
\narea made that possible, and gave Medwin
\nChiropractic the opportunity to expand into
\nSaratoga.
\n“We are basically partners in this office but
\nit is my baby, if you want to put it that way,”
\nPurcell said.<\/p>\n

She said she has found Capital Region residents in general more open to chiropractic
\ntreatment than people in the New York City
\narea.
\n“When I was first practicing [downstate] I
\nwould hear ‘I don’t need you yet’ which makes
\nme think they don’t understand. It’s like saying
\n‘I don’t need a dentist.’ Everyone should get
\nchecked. But up here more people seem to
\nhave an idea of where chiropractic treatment
\nfits into their life. That’s a good thing.”<\/p>\n
