Restaurants and shops dot the Beekman Street Arts District in Saratoga Springs, where people can get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown and find intriguing gift ideas\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

For those shopping for holiday gifts, the
\nBeekman Street Arts District in Saratoga
\nSprings offers some unique alternatives.<\/p>\n

A newcomer to the Beekman Street Arts
\nDistrict is Yoicks! gift shop. Owner Michael
\nFinney recently relocated his store from
\nStevenson, Md., to 74 Beekman St.<\/p>\n

Yoicks! offers high quality clothing, a style
\nthat Finney refers to as “a classic look without
\nany apologies.” Clothing for men and women
\nincludes dress pants and shirts, ties, coats
\nand vests, belts, socks and sweaters. Some
\nof the items Finney buys direct, but most are
\ncustomized exclusively for Yoicks! The shop
\nalso features a vast array of gifts: stuffed
\nanimals, paintings, glassware, cologne, books,
\nstatues, antiques, and more.<\/p>\n

He offers brands such as Barbour, Smathers
\n& Branson and Penhaligon’s.
\nItems come from either the USA or the
\nUK. British items include Corgi, a brand of
\nWelsh socks, and brushed cable knit Shetland
\nsweaters that Finney has imported from
\nScotland.<\/p>\n

“I buy what I like and then I sell it,” said
\nFinney. He looks for items that are unique,
\ninteresting and fun. “If somebody needs a
\nunique and quality gift, there are all types
\nof gifts here.”<\/p>\n

Rena’s Fine Flowers at 51 Ash St. has been
\nin business for eight years, providing floral
\narrangements to customers in the Saratoga
\nSprings region. Rena Zeppetelli, owner, said
\nshe has seen a trend toward purchasing silk
\nflowers, wreaths and trees for the holiday
\nseason. She said they are easy to hang up
\nand put away each season and clean when
\nnecessary.<\/p>\n

“For the holiday season people are really
\nmoving that way,” said Zeppetelli. She notes
\nthat there are plenty of people who still want the scent of real plants and pine in
\ntheir home.<\/p>\n

During the holiday season, some of the
\nmost popular flowers are amaryllis, orchids
\nand holiday greens. Rena’s Fine Flowers sells
\nseasonal decorations and centerpieces for all
\nholiday needs.<\/p>\n

The floral shop provides arrangements
\nfor weddings, fundraisers, corporate events,
\nas well as business decorating. Zeppetelli
\nand her staff come into local businesses
\nand provide all aspects of decorating for
\ncorporations.
\n“I love Beekman Street,” said Zeppetelli.
\n“It’s a great mix of homeowners and business
\nowners. It’s a very tight-knit community.”<\/p>\n

Merle Norman Cosmetics, 70 Beekman
\nSt., is a franchise operated by Terri Guerin.
\nShe has been involved with the company for
\n33 years. Previously located on Broadway,
\nshe moved to the Arts District in April 2013.<\/p>\n

The store will hold its Holiday Open House
\non Saturday, Dec 6. Customers will be treated
\nto beverages and light snacks. There will be
\ngiveaways and holiday gifts. Last year, more
\nthan 200 people attended.<\/p>\n

All products at Merle Norman are made in
\nthe U.S. The store has a policy of “try before
\nyou buy.” Guerin and her staff offer free
\nmakeovers and skin analysis to customers.
\nGuerin said she loves being on Beekman
\nStreet, enjoys having a larger store as well as
\nmore parking space for customers than she
\ndid on Broadway.<\/p>\n

Spa City Bicycleworks, 79 Beekman St., is
\ndedicated to cycling. The store offers mountain,
\ncommuting, and road bicycles. Brands
\ninclude Serotta, Scott, and Salsa.<\/p>\n

The staff offers service and maintenance
\nrepairs for all cycling products, including
\ncleanings, tune-ups, adjustments, bike fittings
\nand rentals.
\nThe store is holding a holiday sale through
\nJan. 1.<\/p>\n

The Barrelhouse is a new bar\/restaurant,
\nat 68 Beekman St. The menu is casual, offering
\nburgers, sandwiches, and soups paired
\nwith comforting sides such as potato salad
\nand baked beans.<\/p>\n

Almost all of the meats are smoked inside
\nthe restaurant, with the rest coming from
\nOscar’s Smokehouse in Warrensburg.<\/p>\n

At the restaurant, the artwork of Jeremy
\nFish lines the walls. The Barrelhouse sells
\nhis prints, and proceeds go to benefit On
\nDeck Saratoga, a nonprofit organization
\nthat preserves the Saratoga Skate Park. The
\nprints make unique holiday gifts, according
\nto co-owner Charlie Usas.<\/p>\n

The Restaurant at 62 Beekman offers new
\nAmerican dishes with ingredients that are
\nsourced from local farms. Owner Dominick
\nDeVietro is head chef. He said the Beekman
\nStreet location helps the restaurant cater
\nto a local crowd, rather than just tourists
\non Broadway. Even on rainy November days,
\nDeVietro is busy in the kitchen preparing
\nplates for a full house.<\/p>\n

The menu is constantly changing to reflect
\nthe seasons. DeVietro recently implemented
\nhis fall menu, featuring specials like a carrot
\nginger soup with cranberry and walnuts and
\na yellow fin tuna dish.<\/p>\n

“We do a lot of holiday parties for companies,”
\nsaid Darren DeVietro, who manages
\nthe front of the house. He said they are busy
\nwith catering from Thanksgiving until Valentine’s
\nDay.<\/p>\n

While the restaurant is closed on Thanksgiving,
\nit does take place in Small Business
\nSaturday the weekend after the holiday.<\/p>\n

Small Business Saturday is a national event
\nhosted by American Express. Strategically
\nplaced between Black Friday and Cyber Monday,
\nit focuses on shopping at small businesses.<\/p>\n

Customers who come in to Restaurant
\nat 62 Beekman will receive a free drink.
\nThe DeVietros are excited to see more
\nbusinesses are moving into the Beekman
\nStreet Art District, saying that since the
\nBarrelhouse opening, more people have been
\ncoming to Restaurant at 62 Beekman.
\n“It’s up-and-coming,” said DeVietro.<\/p>\n

The Local Pub and Teahouse is another
\npopular restaurant, at 142 Grand Ave., on the
\ncorner of Beekman Street. The restaurant
\nwill be taking part in Toys for Toga, a campaign
\nto bring toys to needy children. Starting
\non December 4, people can drop unwrapped
\ntoys at the restaurant. Anybody who brings in
\na toy will receive an Olde Saratoga Brewing
\n20-ounce glass and one free fill at the bar.<\/p>\n

Twelve Beers of Christmas a holiday event
\nat The Local. Starting on Dec. 14, customers
\ncan come in and receive a flight of limited
\nedition winter and holiday beers. Twelve beer
\nsamples costs $12.<\/p>\n

All the Beekman Street restaurants
\nparticipate in Restaurant Week, Dec. 5-11.
\nDuring the event, participating restaurants
\noffer three-course meals for $10, $20, or $30.
\nIt allows people to try new restaurants they
