A pair of delicatessen owners have opened
\na second business, this one a restaurant in
\nBallston Spa.<\/p>\n

Matt Hall and Chris Fignar have owned
\nFront Street Deli, 39 Front St., Ballston Spa,
\nsince 2005. Prior to that, both of them had
\nworked in many dining establishments. When
\nthe restaurant two doors down from the deli
\nrecently became available, they seized on the
\nopportunity to open the space as a dining establishment
\nwith a neighborhood feel.<\/p>\n

The Next Door Kitchen & Bar, 51 Front St.,
\nopened in October. Chef Jeff Strom showcases
\nlocally and organically produced foods.
\nStrom has over 15 years of cooking in restaurants
\nin the Denver area.<\/p>\n

The restaurant d\u00e9cor includes barn boards
\nreclaimed from local area barns. It features
\ntable seating for 38, with room for another 13
\nat the bar. The works of a local glassblower and
\ncopper craftsman are on display. The carpentry
\nwork was done by local carpenters.<\/p>\n

The “next door” and local themes carry over
\ninto the menu. Much of the produce comes
\nfrom the owners’ Next Door Garden, located
\non Science Street in Ballston Spa. Other area
\nfarms whose products are sold at Next Door
\nRestaurant & Bar are in Schuylerville, Salem,
\nSchaghticoke, Galway, and Newport, N.Y., along with a cheesemaker from Cohoes.<\/p>\n

The draft beer selection is strictly New York
\nstate-sourced. Spirits are from local distilleries
\nwhen possible, including one located in
\nGreenfield. The wine list includes New York
\nstate selections, but features wines from all
\nover the world, with an emphasis on smaller,
\nfamily-owned vineyards.<\/p>\n

Hall said one of the beverages most requested
\nby customers is a sangria that includes
\nProtocolo rose, St. Germain, lemon juice, and
\ncucumber. Other customer favorites have
\nincluded beer and wine flights, with opportunities
\nto sample four varieties.<\/p>\n

The double-cut pork chop with ginger
\napplesauce, maple bacon, sweet potato hash,
\ncilantro, and fresh apples is a much-requested
\nentree, he said. Customers have become fast
\nfans of the flourless chocolate cake and of a
\nplate that allows three small samples of various
\ndesserts.<\/p>\n

Hall said the menu changes every two weeks
\naccording to availability of fresh local ingredients.
\nDaily specials are posted on Next Door’s
\nFacebook page.<\/p>\n

Hours are 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday,
\n5-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and
\n5-9 p.m. on Sundays. Reservations are recommended.
