Paul<br \/>\nTonko, state and local officials, members of<br \/>\nthe Skidmore College community, and representatives<br \/>\nof NYSERDA and Washington Gas Energy Systems, Skidmore President Philip<br \/>\nA. Glotzbach called the array &#8220;the next step<br \/>\nforward in Skidmore&#8217;s development of renewable<br \/>\nenergy initiatives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Working with Skidmore College is part of<br \/>\na strategic expansion into New York, and we<br \/>\nanticipate that this project will be the first<br \/>\nof many solar and distributed generation<br \/>\nprojects in the state,&#8221; said Sanjiv Mahan,<br \/>\nCOO of Washington Gas Energy Systems. &#8220;We are committed to working with educational<br \/>\ninstitutions, municipalities and other organizations<br \/>\nacross the country to reduce their<br \/>\ncarbon footprints and improve the environment<br \/>\nwhile stabilizing energy costs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The system will generate 2.6 million kilowatt<br \/>\nhours of electricity per year over the<br \/>\ncourse of a 20-year power purchase agreement,<br \/>\nenough to meet 12 percent of Skidmore&#8217;s<br \/>\nenergy needs and reduce greenhouse<br \/>\ngas emissions equivalent to taking 412 cars off<br \/>\nthe road each year, according to Washington<br \/>\nGas Energy Systems.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This installation responds to the pressing<br \/>\nneed for environmentally responsible, cost effective<br \/>\nenergy for our campus operations,<br \/>\nand it exemplifies our strategic commitment<br \/>\nto sustainability,&#8221; said Glotzbach.<\/p>\n<p>The solar array consists of 6,950 ground-mounted<br \/>\nsolar panels spanning eight acres of<br \/>\nland owned by Skidmore College. Dynamic Energy<br \/>\ndeveloped the project and also managed<br \/>\nengineering, procurement and construction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For decades, the Capital Region has<br \/>\nembraced new technologies, and it is that<br \/>\ncommitment to forward thinking that has<br \/>\npositioned our communities well on a national<br \/>\nand global scale,&#8221; Tonko said. &#8220;Skidmore continues<br \/>\nits proud tradition of innovative leadership<br \/>\nby completing this project, greening<br \/>\nour environment, and cutting energy costs.<br \/>\nI thank President Glotzbach and his team on<br \/>\ncampus for their dedication to &#8216;walking the<br \/>\nwalk&#8217; on clean energy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Officials said it was made possible with support<br \/>\nfrom the NY-Sun Competitive PV Program<br \/>\nthrough NYSERDA. NY-Sun is a $1 billion state<br \/>\ninitiative to advance the scale-up of solar and<br \/>\nmove the state closer to having a sustainable,<br \/>\nself-sufficient solar industry. The program<br \/>\nprovides financial support for the development<br \/>\nof photovoltaic projects at customer<br \/>\nsites that stabilize long-term electricity costs<br \/>\nand generate no greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Through the Sustainable Skidmore initiative,<br \/>\nthe college has a number of other environmental<br \/>\nprojects ranging from composting<br \/>\nprograms to energy conservation events.<br \/>\nThirty campus buildings have geothermal<br \/>\nheating and cooling systems.<br \/>\n&#8220;The Dynamic Energy team congratulates<br \/>\nSkidmore College on hosting this solar system,&#8221;<br \/>\nsaid Michael Perillo, CEO of Dynamic<br \/>\nEnergy. &#8220;The college&#8217;s support of renewable<br \/>\nenergy reflects a true dedication to the students,<br \/>\nfaculty and staff of Skidmore, as well<br \/>\nas their community.
