Andrew Cuomo said. .<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By building on popular features and investing<br \/>\nin projects that will meet the needs of visitors<br \/>\ntoday and in the future, we&#8217;re creating a more<br \/>\nwelcoming park system for all New Yorkers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The new Polaris picnic shelter, named after<br \/>\none of the park&#8217;s celebrated mineral springs,<br \/>\nis the ninth rentable picnic shelter at the<br \/>\npark. It is located near the Peerless swimming<br \/>\npool and playground, and the site also<br \/>\nfeatures a new comfort station, large brick fire<br \/>\npit, and is accessible for people with mobility<br \/>\nchallenges.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am thrilled that these improvement projects<br \/>\nhave been made at Saratoga Spa State<br \/>\nPark&#8221; said Saratoga Springs Mayor Joanne<br \/>\nYepsen. &#8220;These welcomed investments will<br \/>\nenhance our region&#8217;s recreation opportunities<br \/>\nand make our beloved state park even more<br \/>\nattractive and vibrant for many more years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Completion of the trail along Route 9\/<br \/>\nSouth Broadway adds another mile of paved<br \/>\nbike-pedestrian trail to the park&#8217;s expansive<br \/>\nnetwork. The trail links East-West Road to<br \/>\nMarin Avenue, extending the existing trail<br \/>\nalong Route 9 from the Avenue of the Pines to<br \/>\nMarin Avenue, and creating a new trail loop<br \/>\nwithin the park.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the trail expansion project,<br \/>\nconstruction is also underway on the new<br \/>\nPeerless Loop trail, which will establish a<br \/>\nnearly one-mile paved off-road trail around<br \/>\nthe Peerless Pool complex, state officials<br \/>\nsaid. The Peerless Loop trail is expected to<br \/>\nbe completed in the spring.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our popular Saratoga Spa picnic pavilions<br \/>\nbook up early, so we are pleased to offer a<br \/>\nnew option for family reunions, company<br \/>\noutings, birthday parties and other gatherings<br \/>\nin the park,&#8221; said State Parks Commissioner<br \/>\nRose Harvey. &#8220;And the new trail segment will<br \/>\nenhance the park&#8217;s friendliness for walking,<br \/>\nrunning and biking.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The park improvements were identified in<br \/>\na recent master plan for Saratoga Spa State<br \/>\nPark.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the park improvements reflect<br \/>\na statewide revitalization of the park system.<br \/>\nUnder the NY Works program, there was $90<br \/>\nmillion in the 2014-2015 state budget for<br \/>\npark capital improvement projections. This<br \/>\ncommitment follows the last two years of the<br \/>\nNew York Works initiative, which allocated<br \/>\n$179 million in new capital funds. Together<br \/>\nwith additional leveraged funds, NY Works has<br \/>\nsupported a total of $421 million to advance<br \/>\n279 capital improvement projects at 109 parks<br \/>\nsince 2012, according to the governor&#8217;s office.<\/p>\n<p>Shelters are available for public rental<br \/>\nfrom May through mid-October. Applications<br \/>\nto be placed in a lottery to reserve the picnic<br \/>\nshelters will be accepted from Jan. 2 to Feb.<br \/>\n6. The daily rental fee is $200. Vehicle entry<br \/>\nto the park is not included. After the lottery<br \/>\ndeadline, applications will be honored on a<br \/>\nfirst-come first-serve basis.
