The facility, at 165 High Rock, offers<br \/>\nconstantly varied, high-intensity exercise in<br \/>\none-hour sessions, according to co-owner Dave<br \/>\nBlomquist.<\/p>\n<p>There is a &#8220;workout of the day&#8221; at the facility<br \/>\nand each day&#8217;s workout combines elements of<br \/>\nOlympic weightlifting, cardio endurance routines<br \/>\nand gymnastics.<br \/>\nBlomquist recommends people do three to<br \/>\nfive sessions per week.<\/p>\n<p>Although he describes himself as ex-Navy<br \/>\nand &#8220;an athlete all my life,&#8221; Blomquist is relatively<br \/>\nnew to Crossfit. He has been involved<br \/>\nwith the program since 2012 and the Saratoga<br \/>\nSprings facility, which opened Oct. 1, is the<br \/>\nfirst time he has had his own gym.<\/p>\n<p>His business partner, Jason Ackerman, on<br \/>\nthe other hand, joined the movement in 2007.<br \/>\nHe previously owned gyms in Albany and Clifton<br \/>\nPark and spent time at Crossfit headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>Ackerman and Blomquist joined Crossfit<br \/>\nSoulshine as &#8220;affiliates.&#8221; They negotiated for<br \/>\npermission to use the name, but are free to<br \/>\noutfit and operate their gym as they see fit,<br \/>\nBlomquist explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is not quite a franchise,&#8221; he said, &#8220;There<br \/>\nare far fewer rules. It&#8217;s not a one-size fits all,<br \/>\nbut takes on the personality of its members and<br \/>\nthe community,&#8221; he noted.<\/p>\n<p>So far, 50 people have joined the Saratoga<br \/>\nSprings facility, about evenly split between men<br \/>\nand women, most of them ranging in age from<br \/>\nmid-20s to 40s. However, he said, it is too early<br \/>\nto have any &#8220;serious demographics.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>People of varied skill levels work in groups<br \/>\nat the gym. Fitness levels also vary.<br \/>\n&#8220;We can scale any workout to any individual<br \/>\nand meet their personal needs,&#8221; Blomquist<br \/>\nsaid. &#8220;A group community is what we really<br \/>\npush.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Crossfit Soulshine is on the web at www.crossfitsoulshine.com.
