Paddy Duggan’s Irish Pub is a new establishment in Saratoga Springs\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

People can enjoy beer, ballgames and bangers
\nand mash at Paddy Duggan’s Irish Pub, 12 Ballston
\nAve. (Route 50) in Saratoga Springs.<\/p>\n

Opened in the summer, it is known among locals
\nas the site of the Gaslight Lounge for many years.
\nIt’s most recent iteration before becoming a new
\nIrish sports-themed bar was the Starting Gate.
\nPaddy’s was opened almost inadvertently by
\nowner Patrick “Paddy” Duggan.<\/p>\n

Duggan was born in the Bronx of Irish parents,
\nbut returned to Ireland where he went to school.
\nHis accent is of the Emerald Isle and not New York
\nCity. His parents ran a bar in Ireland, but also in
\nAstoria, Queens, in the 1970s, so Duggan has been
\naround the business for much of his life.<\/p>\n

In fact, for about the last decade, he has owned
\nand operated Paddy Duggan’s Pub in Sunnyside,
\nQueens. His brother operates Jack Duggan’s Pub
\nin Floral Park, Long Island.<\/p>\n

Like many tourists from downstate, Duggan
\nhad been coming to Saratoga Springs for the last
\n10 years or so with his father for the annual meet
\nat Saratoga Race Course.
\n“I love the people. I love the town. I didn’t intend
\nto buy this place. It just fell into my lap and I said,
\n‘Why not?'”<\/p>\n

Once the decision was made, Duggan and staff
\nworked hard to get the pub open by the start of
\nthe race meet. The interior was refurbished. They
\nfinished in time.<\/p>\n

The bar has plenty of televisions for sports
\nfans and offers and array of fine beers, as well as
\ndomestic product.
\nThe menu includes the traditional Irish bangers
\nand mash, a dish made of mashed potatoes and
\nkinds of specialty sausages. The bangers are imported,
\nsaid Duggan.<\/p>\n

Guinness battered fish and chips, as well as
\ncorned beef and cabbage, are also dishes with an
\nIrish tinge. But customers can get burgers, salads,
\nwraps, club sandwiches, Reubens, chicken wings,
\nNathan’s hotdogs and even a New York strip steak.
\nThe fries are fresh cut.
\nPizza was always popular at that location and it remains so at Paddy Duggan’s, the proprietor noted.<\/p>\n

The chef is Mike Laudicina. Duggan splits time
\nbetween Queens and Saratoga, so the local pub is
\nmanaged by Veronica Murtagh.<\/p>\n

Duggan said the 2014 track season was good and
\nsome customers from his Queens establishment
\nfound their way to the new spot. Business continues
\nto be good and more growth is expected.<\/p>\n

While there is plenty of seating for diners, Duggan
\nsaid he plans to extend the bar area into what
\nis now the dining room, and convert a currently
\nunused dining room into the actual dining room.
\nAs of now, the bar caters indoor parties, from
\nsmall groups to up to 100 people, he said.<\/p>\n

“I’m very happy,” Duggan said of his decision to
\nbuy the place. “The town is what brought me here.”
\nPaddy Duggan’s is open seven days a week: 11
\na.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; 11 a.m.
\nto 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The phone number
