Judith Cox and a group of 35 independent
\ncontractors are bringing fitness programs and
\nservices to some 800 clients in Saratoga and seven
\nother counties, helping them lose weight, reduce
\nstress and get fit.<\/p>\n

Her company, called Fitness Professionals on
\nDemand, has been operating for about four years.<\/p>\n

Classes meet in the town of Clifton Park, at
\nAdirondack and Hudson Valley Community Colleges,
\nat some 15 area schools, and in corporate
\nconference rooms. About half the clientele come
\nfrom Blue Shield of Northeastern New York, she
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

In addition to the in-person programs, online
\nprograms are aimed at busy executives “or any
\nbusy person who needs a structure,” Cox said.<\/p>\n

Participants meet three times with a personal
\ntrainer and then work at home (or office) and
\ncommunicate by email. After six weeks, there
\nis another personal meeting to check progress.
\nShe is also proud of a 10-week nutrition and
\nexercise program the company offers. Called Fit
\nFriendly, it is patterned on the television show
\n“Biggest Loser,” with prizes for superior weight
\nloss.
\n“The competition is great. People really like
\nit,” she noted.<\/p>\n

The program emphasizes healthy eating, and
\nincludes education about food and how to make good choices. The staff includes four registered
\ndieticians among its fitness professionals.
\nFor corporations, Fitness Professionals on
\nDemand will assess employee needs and design
\nprograms to meet them. They may help with the
\nselection of exercise machines or the design of
\nwalking paths, provide diet workshops, or organize
\nother classes.<\/p>\n

The company is affiliated with six gyms in the
\narea, where they may provide personal trainers,
\nexercise classes, and other services.<\/p>\n

She said there are two major advantages to
\nthe services provided by Fitness Professionals
\non Demand.
\n“Everything is custom designed around the
\nperson,” she said, and her company can bring
\nthe program to the client.<\/p>\n

Cox has a master’s degree in clinical psychology.
\nPreviously, she worked with people with
\nmental illness and was a director with the New
\nYork State Office of Mental Health.
\nWhen she got to the stage of “having to watch
\nwhat I put in my body and my fitness,” she decided
\nto change careers and got into the fitness business.
\nShe is a certified expert in weight management
\nand in stress management.<\/p>\n

“I really enjoy this. It’s a fun program,” she said.
\nThe company has no fixed base. Cox or her
