Saratoga Casino and Raceway officials recently presented a $10,000 check to SUNY Adirondack officials, part of the $100,000 the racing and gaming facility donated to local groups\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Sixteen local charitable organizations
\nreceived donations totaling $100,000 at the
\nSaratoga Casino and Raceway’s 10th annual
\nMake a Difference event in December.
\nThe donations bring the casino’s total support
\nto Capital Region charities to $240,000 in 2014,
\nofficials said.<\/p>\n

Since its inception in 2005, the annual Make
\na Difference event has presented over $1 million
\nto local organizations, according to the casino.
\nMore than $2 million in monetary and in-kind
\ndonations have been made by Saratoga Casino
\nand Raceway since opening in 2004.<\/p>\n

“It is truly an honor to highlight so many outstanding
\norganizations in our community,” said
\nMike Vild, general manager of Saratoga Casino
\nand Raceway. “This is about the amazing work
\nthey do every day, and we are proud to be able
\nto assist them in furthering their missions and
\nimproving the quality of life here in the Capital
\nRegion.”<\/p>\n

“The staff and management of Saratoga Casino
\nand Raceway truly values and appreciates
\nthe contribution of the many not-for-profit organizations
\nin our community,” said Skip Carlson,
\nvice president of external affairs at Saratoga
\nCasino and Raceway. “The positive and lasting
\nimpression these organizations make on the
\nlives of the people they serve goes a long way
\nin improving the character of our community.”<\/p>\n

Liz Bishop of CBS6 hosted the event. She
\npresented the checks to each organization,
\nbeginning with two organizations she has been
\nchampioning for years, Empire State Youth
\nOrchestra at Proctors, which received $2,000
\nand The Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer
\nand Blood Disorders at Albany Med., which
\nreceived $3,000.<\/p>\n

Other recipients were:<\/p>\n

Rebuilding Together, Saratoga County,
\nInc.; Saratoga Hospital Foundation; SUNY
\nAdirondack Foundation, $10,000 each.
\nFranklin Community Center, Inc.; Jake’s Help
\nFrom Heaven; Shelters of Saratoga; and To Life!,
\n$7,500 each.<\/p>\n

Agricultural Stewardship Association; AIM
\nServices, Inc.; Capital Roots; Guardian House;
\nNathan Littauer Foundation, Inc.; Wellspring;
\nand The Wesley Foundation, $5,000 each.
\n“We are thrilled to accept this generous gift on
\nbehalf of SUNY Adirondack,” said Rachel Patten,
\nexecutive director of development, alumni relations,
\nSUNY Adirondack Foundation. “We plan to
\nuse the funds to establish new partnerships with
\nour students, local residents, and our agriculture
\ncommunity — an important economic driver in
\nour region — through the development of an online
\nfarmers market. We are most appreciative
\nof Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s commitment
\nto the future vitality of our region.”<\/p>\n
