MT Returnables, long a fixture in Corinth,
\nopened a second location at 4 Adelphi St. in
\nSaratoga Springs at the beginning of the year.
\nThe company redeems deposit bottles and cans,
\nanything with a New York state deposit label.<\/p>\n

Owner Bob Ball said that things started slowly
\nbut “the numbers are coming up slowly” and he
\nexpects that “as it gets warmer and the snow starts
\nmelting, it will begin to pick up.”
\nJudging by his experience in Corinth, Ball
\nexpects to have a “pretty crazy place” by spring.<\/p>\n

MT pays cash (no bottle slips to take to the
\ncheckout counter) and, he said, there are no
\nmachines and no waiting. People are asked to
\nseparate their glass, plastic and metal into separate
\npiles and, if they pre-count, they can go to the
\nhead of the line.<\/p>\n

To assist in pre-counting, the company provides
\nstandard-size bags that hold a known quantity of
\ncontainers. Glass containers should be in boxes
\nand MT does not accept crushed or broken containers.<\/p>\n

Most of the customers bring household empties,
\nBall said, although there are a small number who go out and collect
\ncontainers from the roadside or trash cans. He will accept them so long
\nas they
\nare clean.<\/p>\n

For now, Ball’s only help comes from his two
\ndaughters, Jade and Chelsea. Jade takes care of
\nmuch of the bookkeeping and online duties. When
\nthe weather gets warmer and business picks up,
\nhowever, he expects to hire three or four additional
\nemployees.<\/p>\n

The company offers assistance to organizations
\nplanning bottle drives. They will help put the drive
\ntogether and donate a 10 percent bonus to the organization.
\nThey also maintain a list on their website,
\nMTReturnables.com, of organizations people
\ncan donate the proceeds of their containers to.
\nBall pays the full amount of the deposit and then
\nhands over the containers to a beverage distributor
\nwho refunds the deposit money and pays him
\na handling fee.<\/p>\n

Both redemptions centers are open from 10
\na.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays,
\nand closed on Sundays. The telephone number for
\nthe Saratoga location is 538-0269. The Corinth
