C.T. Male Associates won the American
\nPublic Works Association (APWA), Capital
\nDistrict Branch, 2014 Transportation Project
\nof the Year award for projects costing
\nunder $5 million.<\/p>\n
The award-winning civil engineering
\nproject was the Sand Creek Road reconstruction
\nproject in the town of Colonie,
\nlocated just a few miles from the C.T. Male
\nHeadquarters in Latham.<\/p>\n
Company officials said the project was
\na full-depth reconstruction of an arterial
\nroadway through a fully developed and mature
\nneighborhood. It included a widening
\nof the roadway to accommodate a center
\nturning lane, the addition of concrete
\ncurbing and a porous concrete sidewalk,
\nand the replacement of the sanitary sewer,
\npotable water, and drainage collection
\nsystems.<\/p>\n
The total length of the project was
\napproximately 5,000 linear feet, officials
\nsaid. The project also included the replacement
\nof traffic signal systems at two
\nintersections.<\/p>\n
According to the company, what made
\nthis project successful were the open lines
\nof communication and regular meetings
\nbetween the town of Colonie, the engineer,
\nand the contractor. This created a spirit
\nof cooperation between all involved with
\nthe project.<\/p>\n
Residents of the town were introduced
\nto the project at a pre-construction meeting
\nand the contractor, observer and town
\nofficials were proactive in addressing any
\nconcerns. This level of cooperation led to
\nthe project being completed on time and
