{"id":16613,"date":"2015-04-10T15:46:50","date_gmt":"2015-04-10T19:46:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2015\/04\/chamber-of-southern-saratoga-county-celebrates-progress-hands-out-awards.html"},"modified":"2015-04-10T15:46:50","modified_gmt":"2015-04-10T19:46:50","slug":"chamber-of-southern-saratoga-county-celebrates-progress-hands-out-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2015\/04\/chamber-of-southern-saratoga-county-celebrates-progress-hands-out-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Chamber Of Southern Saratoga County Celebrates Progress, Hands Out Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"img-left\">\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"southern chamber annual dinner hc.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2015\/04\/southern20chamber20annual20dinner20hc.jpg\" class=\"alignleft\" height=\"217\" width=\"300\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"img-caption\">About 305 people attended the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County awards dinner\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County<br \/>\n(CSSC) celebrated its strong presence in<br \/>\nthe Capital Region and across the state and<br \/>\nhanded out nine awards at its annual dinner<br \/>\non March 27 at the Hall of Springs at Gideon<br \/>\nPutnam Resort, attended by 305 people.<\/p>\n<p>Now 10th largest in eastern New York,<br \/>\nthe Chamber has reached new milestones<br \/>\nin membership (1,065), major partners (60-<br \/>\nplus), and annual budget (over $700,000).<\/p>\n<p>Officials said its 37 marine-related business<br \/>\nmembers help it rank near the top statewide<br \/>\nin that industry, giving it a powerful voice<br \/>\nthat reaches the length of the Erie Canal and<br \/>\nalong transportation corridors to New York<br \/>\nCity and Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>During his remarks, Chamber President\/<br \/>\nCEO Pete Bardunias shared a &#8220;Destination<br \/>\nfor Innovation&#8221; presentation on 400 years<br \/>\nof marine cargo transportation in New York<br \/>\nstate, noting that the entire history is represented<br \/>\namong the membership of the chamber,<br \/>\nright up to the latest innovation, &#8220;Solar<br \/>\nSal,&#8221; a 40-foot solar\/electric powered cargo<br \/>\nvessel under construction in Schodack. When<br \/>\nlaunched later this year, it will represent the<br \/>\nfirst purpose-built Erie Canal cargo vessel<br \/>\nnot powered by either mule or fossil fuel in<br \/>\nits 200 year history.<\/p>\n<p>During her keynote address, Business<br \/>\nCouncil of New York State President\/CEO<br \/>\nHeather Briccetti praised the Chamber of<br \/>\nSouthern Saratoga County&#8217;s efforts and enthusiasm<br \/>\non behalf of its members, and its<br \/>\ninteraction with larger partners.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Your chamber translates messages from members to us,&#8221; she said, &#8220;so that we may<br \/>\nget that message to the elected officials that<br \/>\nrepresent the region and urge them to implement<br \/>\nchanges where needed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There were nine awards given to nominees,<br \/>\nchosen by a vote of the membership.<br \/>\nThe Endurance Award went to Jack Byrne<br \/>\nFord of Mechanicville, in business since 1965.<br \/>\nThe Mechanicville Area Community Services<br \/>\nCenter was presented the Inspiration Award<br \/>\nfor inspiring other organizations throughout<br \/>\nthe county by enhancing the life of area<br \/>\nresidents through family support, recreation<br \/>\nand education.<\/p>\n<p>Ballston Spa National Bank&#8217;s Jenifer Marten<br \/>\naccepted the Strong Community Award<br \/>\non behalf of the bank, for its community<br \/>\nconnections.<\/p>\n<p>West End Bagels of Clifton Park received<br \/>\nthe Entrepreneurial Success Award, while the<br \/>\nShmaltz Brewing Co. in Clifton Park won the<br \/>\nInnovation Award.<\/p>\n<p>The Education and Business Partnership<br \/>\nAward was given to Gil&#8217;s Garage, a Burnt Hills<br \/>\nbusiness committed to improving the lives of<br \/>\nyoung people, nominated by the Burnt Hills-<br \/>\nBallston Lake School District.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been an honor and privilege to work<br \/>\nwith the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School<br \/>\nDistrict and to enhance the student experience<br \/>\nthere,&#8221; said owner Michael Brewster.<\/p>\n<p>The Southern Saratoga Chamber Angels<br \/>\nhonored the New York State Electric and Gas<br \/>\nCorporation (NYSEG) in Clifton Park for its<br \/>\nefforts in helping provide holiday cheer for<br \/>\nhundreds of children whose families were in<br \/>\nfinancial distress in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Judy Brinkman of Life&#8217;s 2 Short LLC received<br \/>\nthe Ambassador of the Year award for<br \/>\nher volunteer efforts in reaching out to new<br \/>\nChamber members, while Barbara Wisnom of<br \/>\nthe Third Zone received the Service Excellence<br \/>\nAward for her years of working to better<br \/>\nthe local community as committee chair and<br \/>\nserving in various capacities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As the largest chamber of commerce<br \/>\nin New York state that does not speak for<br \/>\nan entire county, this Chamber is in a very<br \/>\nunique position to make a difference,&#8221; said<br \/>\nBardunias. &#8220;We are working hard to concentrate<br \/>\nresources in the communities we serve<br \/>\nand ensure that the specific needs of certain<br \/>\nindustries are met by our efforts. We are<br \/>\npleased to be such strong supporters of the<br \/>\nmarine industry, manufacturing, agriculture,<br \/>\nretail, hospitality and the many professional<br \/>\nbusinesses throughout our area.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County<br \/>\nis based in Clifton Park, serving 16 southern<br \/>\nand central Saratoga County communities as<br \/>\nwell as a number of businesses in nearby towns<br \/>\nin northern Albany and eastern Schenectady<br \/>\ncounties.
