The New York Racing Association has
\nscheduled a hearing next month to gather
\npublic comment on plans to build an addition
\nto the clubhouse at Saratoga Race
\nCourse.
\nThe hearing will be May 28 at the City
\nCenter in downtown Saratoga Springs.<\/p>\n

NYRA has submitted capital plans that
\ninclude adding a three-story building
\nadjacent to the current clubhouse at the
\nhistoric track. The addition would replace
\nthe current “At the Rail” pavilion tent and
\ntemporary luxury suites near the clubhouse
\nturn. The hospitality building would have
\na 500-seat room and party suites, NYRA
\nofficials said.<\/p>\n

Capital projects at the track require
\napproval from the state Racing Franchise
\nOversight Board and the state Office of
\nGeneral Services.<\/p>\n

The state Franchise Oversight Board,
\nwhich oversees NYRA’s business operations,
\nhas approved the draft environmental
\nimpact statement for developing the permanent,
\nair-conditioned building.
\nNYRA says the new structure, among
\nother proposed renovations, would provide
\nfans broader service choices and an
\nenhanced experience.<\/p>\n

The preliminary design for the building
\nincludes a large space with 500 seats on the
\nground level, 12 suites on the second floor,
\nand three to six suites with capacity on the top floor. Patios would provide views to the
\ntrack, paddock and horse path.<\/p>\n

NYRA also has long-term plans to replace
\nor refurbish several backstretch dorms and
\nhorse barns, build 200 new horse stalls and
\nredesign the jockeys’ room and administration
\nbuilding into a high-wagering player’s
\nclub, restaurant and lounge. Those would
\nbe funded with revenue generated through
\nvideo lottery terminals and electronic table
\ngames at Aqueduct Racetrack, officials
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

NYRA said it would like to begin construction
\non the new building this fall, but
\napprovals must come first.
\nNYRA said the plans would be the first
\nlarge-scale renovation at the track since
\n1956. The property’s grandstand was extended
\nin 1965, and the carousel was built
\nduring the late 1980s.<\/p>\n

The public may submit comments about
\nthe track renovations until June 15 to
\nCarolyn Dunderdale at the state Office of
\nGeneral Services in Albany.<\/p>\n
