Saratoga Hospital and community leaders
\nmarked the opening of the Marylou Whitney
\nand Desmond DelGiacco MD Intensive Care
\nUnit at Saratoga Hospital in early May with
\na ribbon cutting ceremony, open house and
\ntours of the state-of-the-art facility.<\/p>\n

The name of the new ICU acknowledges
\nWhitney’s philanthropic support for Saratoga
\nHospital and the Saratoga region and DelGiacco’s
\n30 years of service to ICU patients and
\ntheir families.<\/p>\n

Angelo Calbone, Saratoga Hospital president
\nand CEO, spoke of Whitney and DelGiacco’s
\nlasting imprint on the community. He
\ncited Whitney’s enduring influence in establishing
\nSaratoga Springs as an “internationally
\nacclaimed destination” and DelGiacco’s essential
\nrole in bringing intensive care services to
\ngreater Saratoga.<\/p>\n

Calbone also hailed the new ICU as the
\nlatest example of what’s possible when a
\ncommunity comes together around a common
\ngoal. The new facility is funded, in part, by the
\nhospital’s $8 million Campaign for Surgical
\nand Intensive Care Services.<\/p>\n

“This has truly been the ‘people’s campaign’,”
\nCalbone said. “We’ve had an overwhelming
\n1,440 donors to date contribute.<\/p>\n

I think you will agree that is an impressive
\nnumber and underscores the commitment of
\nthis entire community to our hospital. To date,
\nthe hospital has raised $6.5 million.
\n“Thank you all for your unwavering, loyal
\nsupport of this hospital –and this entire
\nregion we all call home,” he added.<\/p>\n

The Marylou Whitney and Desmond Del-
\nGiacco MD Intensive Care Unit combines the latest technology and a patient-focused environment.<\/p>\n

Hospital officials said each of the
\n19 private rooms is outfitted with advanced
\nequipment, including in-room dialysis and the
\nregion’s most sophisticated patient monitoring
\nsystem.<\/p>\n

Officials said each room also has ample
\nspace for family and other loved ones, and
\nincludes windows and other features that
\npromote healing.<\/p>\n

The new, larger ICU is a key component of
\none of the largest construction projects in the
\nhospital’s history. The $34 million expansion
\nand renovation also includes a new Surgical
\nPavilion with 10 state-of-the-art operating
\nsuites and new preoperative and postoperative
\ncare areas.<\/p>\n

Officials said in late summer, the new Dake
\nFamily and Stewart’s Shops Surgical Waiting
\nand Registration Area and the Linda and Michael Toohey Pre-Operative Screening Center
\nwill open. Seven new operating rooms will
\nopen in the fall. The remaining pavilion areas,
\nincluding three additional operating rooms, as
\nwell as new preoperative and postoperative
\nspaces, will open in early 2016.<\/p>\n

In addition to Calbone, speakers at the
\nribbon cutting ceremony included Kevin
\nRonayne, Saratoga Hospital vice president,
\noperations and facilities, and Diane Bartos,
\ndirector of intensive care services at the
\nhospital.<\/p>\n

Construction partners for the expansion
\nare Hyman Hayes Associates, Albany, architects;
\nFriedman Fisher Associates, Albany,
\nMEP engineers; Vision Engineering, Glens
\nFalls, structural engineer; The LA Group,
\nSaratoga Springs, civil engineer; AOW Associates,
\nAlbany, construction manager; and
\nDesign Network, Albany, interior design.<\/p>\n
