Spa City Menus is a new restaurant delivery
\nbusiness in Saratoga Springs that allows customers
\nto order food and get delivery from places that
\ndon’t deliver themselves.<\/p>\n

Spa City Menus receives technology, tablet
\nand marketing support from Zuppler, a Chicago based
\ncompany that integrates its software into
\nindividual restaurant websites to allow customers
\nto order online, according to company president
\nErica Kelley.<\/p>\n

The Spa City Menus website was officially
\nlaunched in April. The free mobile app was made
\navailable mid-May.<\/p>\n

“Right now we are relying on grass-roots advertising.
\nWith the limited resources we have, we
\nare utilizing boots on the ground and feet on the
\nstreet with our marketing and merchandising,”
\nKelley said.<\/p>\n

“We’ve had tremendous success with medical
\nand office buildings, with people who routinely
\nneed to order lunch in, but can’t go out for very
\nlong, or who have regular lunch meetings. We’ve
\nalso been successful with students and outlying
\nresidents who do not necessarily want to go into
\ntown to pick up food.”<\/p>\n

Kelley has worked with Zuppler on projects
\nprior to Spa City Menus.
\n“I started working on this in December. At the
\ntime, it was more of a restaurant-integration database.
\nThen I learned of another Zuppler-supported
\nclient in Jacksonville, Fla.,was using an ‘\u00c3\u0153ber-like’
\ndelivery system, for various restaurants. So we took
\n12 different restaurants from this area, and put
\nthem all on one website in January of this year.
\nWe’re still adding more.”<\/p>\n

Kelley compares the delivery system to massively
\nsuccessful ride-sharing startup \u00c3\u0153ber. Customers
\nplace their orders online via PC, tablet or
\nsmart-phone. Orders come up in the restaurant
\non a tablet provided by Spa City Menus. Delivery
\ndrivers are notified of the order and dispatched to
\nthe restaurant. Upon leaving the restaurant with
\nthe order, drivers notify Spa City Menus of their
\ndeparture via GPS-coded smartphones.<\/p>\n

Customers are sent an estimated time of delivery
\nas well as a photo of the driver, and are able to
\ntrack their delivery on a map visible on their PC or
\npersonal computer device. Customers are notified
\none last time when their delivery is within 500 feet
\nof them. Drivers are rated by customers, similar to
\n\u00c3\u0153ber. Higher rated drivers get preferential treatment
\nfor deliveries.<\/p>\n

“It’s very seamless. It never takes the customer
\naway from the restaurant’s menu. They don’t need
\nto enter their information until the end, when
\nthey’re done ordering,” said Kelley.<\/p>\n

“We provide all the drivers. We handle the
\nbackground check and driver wages. We assume
\nall liability–insurance, etc. Some restaurants
\nare simply not set up for delivery, so they’re
\nmissing out on a huge market. Since we are a
\nperformance-based business, we don’t charge
\nthe restaurant until we bring them business. Now
\nrestaurants previously not set up for delivery can
\ntap into that part of the business, through us. It’s
\ngreat for them.”<\/p>\n

Spa City Menus accepts only one restaurant per
\ncuisine category. “We felt it would cannibalize the
\nmarket to choose only one per food type. Instead
\nof splitting up business, why not focus on growing
\njust a handful of great restaurants? It’s a perk of
\nbeing part of the business. It is a benefit to both
\nthe consumer and the restaurant,” she said.<\/p>\n

Participating restaurant sites and menus are
\nintegrated into the Spa City Menus website and
\nmobile app. Menus are mobile-interactive and
\noptimized. This is included in the membership,
\nat no additional charge.<\/p>\n

“Every item, every dish–customers can just
\nclick on it and add it to their cart. Payment is
\ntaken at the end of the order. We have designed
\na delivery system that has made things very hot,
\nfresh and effective,” Kelley stated.<\/p>\n

“There’s a buzz around town about the delivery
\nservice. People think it’s cool, it’s genius, it’s great.
\nThere’s nothing like it anywhere nearby. Until
\nnow, unless you live in a big city, it’s hard to get
\nsomething delivered other than pizza or Chinese.
\nThere’s nothing wrong with either of those, but this
\nservice provides customers with a lot more options.
\nWe’re really pushing these restaurants to the top
\nand making them much more visible,” Kelley said.<\/p>\n

Spa City Menus is currently doing “Lunch &
\nLearn” seminars for area office buildings. Lunch
\nis sponsored in part or in whole by a participating
\nrestaurant while the ins and outs of the app are explained.<\/p>\n

Meals for working lunches and meetings
\ncan be ordered from Spa City Menus early in the
\nday, and will be delivered at the appointed time.
\n“We send a group order feature that sends email
\nto everyone in a group and prompts them to order
\ntheir meal. Orders can be paid by individuals or by
\nthe company. Names are greenlighted as orders are
\nplaced. It takes away from someone having to run
\naround an office taking lunch orders all morning.
\nIt makes lunch meetings much more efficient.”<\/p>\n

Kelley graduated from the College of St. Rose.
\nShe has a long history in the restaurant consulting
\nindustry and is a trained sommelier.<\/p>\n

“This is by far one of the services I am proudest
\nof in my career. I feel it is good for the restaurant,
\nnot just good for me. I think it’s helping the local
\nrestaurants I grew up with, and that is something
\nI am very proud of.”<\/p>\n
