Hoss’ River House is a new restaurant
\nin Halfmoon where owner Claude Gauthier
\nhas brought country flavor in both food and
\natmosphere.<\/p>\n

It was opened earlier this year at 32 ClamsteamRoad
\nby Gauthier. It was previously the
\nKlamsteam Tavern and Gauthier was a patron
\nthere. He was offered the opportunity to buy
\nthe restaurant and took on the challenge.<\/p>\n

Gauthier, known to many as Big Hoss, has
\nexperience in several industries including
\nreal estate and working as a general contractor.
\nHe previously owned Buckboard Inc., a
\ncountry dance hall in Malta, so he brings his
\nwell-rounded experience to Hoss’ River House.<\/p>\n

At the restaurant Gauthier promises to
\nprovide the same high level of quality that
\nthe previous owners did. “Nothing is frozen.
\nEverything is homemade,” he said.<\/p>\n

Eric Freitag is the chef. Some of the more
\npopular items include large chicken pot pies,
\nribeye steak, meatloaf, and the half-pound
\nHoss burger. Even the appetizers are made
\nfresh. Freitag hand-seasons and prepares the
\nchicken wings, and rolls the mozzarella sticks
\nin a proprietary blend of bread crumbs and
\nspices. Customers can still come in for the
\nfresh steamed clams that were a favorite dish
\nat the Klamsteam Tavern.<\/p>\n

As for Gauthier’s favorite dish, he has
\ntrouble deciding.
\n“The pot pie, the meatloaf, and the steak,”
\nhe said. “It’s a tie with those three. It’s all really
\ngood.”<\/p>\n

But what draws many people into Hoss’ River
\nHouse isn’t the food – it’s the dancing, he said.
\nGauthier learned country dancing at Just
\nCountry in Malta. When that establishment
\nclosed, he saw the need for a new country
\ndancing venue in the region.<\/p>\n

Hoss’ River House provides country dancing
\nlessons on Monday and Thursday nights. There
\nare beginner lessons and intermediate lessons.
\nGauthier encourages anybody who wants to
\nlearn country dancing to come and give it a try.
\nGauthier said the lessons are very popular,
\nwith 50 to 60 people coming on a Monday night
\nfor beginner dance lessons.<\/p>\n

The restaurant also hosts a dance night
\nevery Saturday. People can come in, listen to
\ncountry music, dance and have some fun. There
\nis no cover charge for the dance.<\/p>\n

“Country music is really popular right now”
\nsaid Gauthier. “So to have a whole full-service
\nbar and restaurant devoted to this, I have
\nno competition,” he said, explaining why he
\nbelieves his restaurant has been successful.<\/p>\n

Hoss’ River House also has a marina outside
\nof the facility. It will open in June and stay
\nopen during the summer months. The marina
\ncan accommodate up to 16 boats and will have
\na courtesy docking policy. Boaters can safely
\ndock their boats overnight or short term, and
\ncome up to the restaurant or spend a bit of time
\nin town. Gauthier said he is eager to grab some
\nof the traffic flowing through the Mohawk River.
\nHoss’ River House is a veteran-owned business.<\/p>\n

Gauthier served in the U.S. Army during
\nthe Vietnam War. Each night before dancing,
\nthe National Anthem is played. The restaurant
\noffers military discounts.<\/p>\n

There are several events happening this
\nsummer at Hoss’ River House. Wednesday
\nnights will be Biker Night. Also, on Sunday,
\nJune 14, there will be a cowboy barbecue. It
\nwill feature a delicious pulled pork platter,
\nplus live entertainment. Tickets are $20 each.<\/p>\n

For those planning a special occasion, the
\nrestaurant is able to host banquets, wedding
\nparties, and other events.<\/p>\n

Hoss’ River House is open from noon until
\nmidnight every day. The phone number is
