{"id":17244,"date":"2015-07-09T13:39:58","date_gmt":"2015-07-09T17:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2015\/07\/renowned-yaddo-arts-community-earns-an-award-from-saratogaartsfest-organization.html"},"modified":"2015-07-09T13:39:58","modified_gmt":"2015-07-09T17:39:58","slug":"renowned-yaddo-arts-community-earns-an-award-from-saratogaartsfest-organization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/2015\/07\/renowned-yaddo-arts-community-earns-an-award-from-saratogaartsfest-organization\/","title":{"rendered":"Renowned Yaddo Arts Community Earns An Award From SaratogaArtsFest Organization"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"img-left\">\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"artsfest-yaddo hc.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saratoga.com\/saratogabusinessjournal\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2015\/07\/artsfest-yaddo20hc.jpg\" class=\"alignleft\" height=\"222\" width=\"300\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"img-caption\">Representatives of Yaddo, from left, Candace Wait, Steve Dennin, Tristan Kirvin, and Lynn Farnenell, accept an award from Dee Sarno, chairwoman of SaratogaArtsFest\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>SaratogaArtsFest presented its Arts Star<br \/>\nAward for 2015 to Yaddo, the famed artists&#8217;<br \/>\ncommunity located on a 400-acre estate in<br \/>\nSaratoga Springs.<br \/>\nThe award was presented recently at the<br \/>\nArtsFest Prelude fundraiser event at the<br \/>\nSaratoga National Golf Club.<\/p>\n<p>Yaddo was founded in 1900 by the financier<br \/>\nSpencer Trask and his wife, Katrina, a poet.<br \/>\nIts mission is to nurture the creative process<br \/>\nby providing an opportunity for artists to work<br \/>\nwithout interruption in a supportive environment.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years the community has housed<br \/>\nmore that 5,500 artists.<br \/>\n&#8220;SaratogaArtsFest is proud to honor Yaddo<br \/>\nfor its amazing support of artists for over a<br \/>\ncentury,&#8221; said Dee Sarno, chairwoman of the<br \/>\nArtsFest board. &#8220;We applaud the staff at Yaddo<br \/>\nfor their dedicated work, passion, and daring<br \/>\ncommitment in giving artists the freedom and<br \/>\npower to create.<\/p>\n<p>Yaddo staff members Lynn Farenell, director<br \/>\nof annual giving; Tristan Kirvin, communications<br \/>\nand event manager; Steve Dennin, development<br \/>\ndirector; and Candace Wait, program<br \/>\ndirector, were on hand to accept the award.<\/p>\n<p>Farenell read a statement from Yaddo<br \/>\nPresident Elaina Richardson, who was unable<br \/>\nto attend the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an exciting time for Yaddo, full of<br \/>\npromise as well as a challenge or two, and given<br \/>\ncoherence by our commitment to two resonant<br \/>\nthemes: preserving our past and building a<br \/>\nvibrant future,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve just broken<br \/>\nground on five new live-work studios, an exhilarating<br \/>\nand highly visible way of communicating<br \/>\nYaddo&#8217;s dedication to providing the highestquality<br \/>\nenvironment for creative endeavors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Proceeds from the Prelude benefit will help<br \/>\nsupport the ArtsFestFriday events beginning<br \/>\nin September. Said Sarno, &#8220;SaratogaArtsFest<br \/>\nthanks the many businesses and patrons who<br \/>\nsupported the Prelude event, especially our<br \/>\nmajor sponsors, Marcia and Jerry MacDonald,<br \/>\nDenise Polit and Alan Janosy, and Camelot Copy<br \/>\nand Print Center in Albany.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the fall events, the ArtsFest will<br \/>\ncelebrate the Saratoga Springs centennial<br \/>\nwith varied arts events in downtown Saratoga<br \/>\nSprings on Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and<br \/>\n14.
