It’s no secret that people use a handful
\nof different devices to search for businesses
\nonline. As more people use their mobile devices,
\none critical question remains: Is your
\nwebsite mobile-friendly?<\/p>\n

On mobile devices, a desktop-only website
\ncan be very difficult to use, which means a
\nmobile-friendly website is essential if you
\nwant to keep your visitors engaged. Without
\na mobile-friendly website, there’s a good
\nchance visitors may leave your site and go to
\na competitor’s mobile-friendly site which is
\neasier to read and navigate.<\/p>\n

It comes as no surprise that Google has
\nclued into this behavior, too. In April, Google
\nchanged the way websites were being ranked
\nin the mobile search results by rewarding
\nmobile-friendly websites.<\/p>\n

\nprovide a quick overview of the most common
\nsolutions businesses generally use to ensure
\nthey have a mobile-friendly presence.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Mobile Website.
\nA mobile website is designed to be used
\nexclusively on smartphone devices and is generally
\na separate version of your main desktop
\nwebsite. When a smartphone user comes to
\nyour website, an “auto-detect” will recognize
\nthe device they’re using and then send him or
\nher to the mobile version of your website (for
\nexample, “m.yourdomainname.com,” rather
\nthan “www.yourdomainname.com”).<\/p>\n

Mobile websites typically display a limited
\nnumber of the many pages that are featured
\non the main desktop version of a company’s
\nwebsite. However, many companies include
\na link from the mobile version to their main
\ndesktop website so that visitors have the
\noption of accessing additional information.<\/p>\n

Since a mobile website is a condensed version of your desktop website, it’s generally
\nconsidered to be a budget-friendly temporary
\nsolution if you don’t have the budget to immediately
\ninvest in a responsive designed
\nwebsite.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Responsive Website.
\nA responsive website is a website that
\nis designed to be user-friendly on desktop,
\ntablet, and smartphone devices. Think of it
\nas having one website that works on many
\ndifferent devices and screen sizes.<\/p>\n

Rather than creating a separate version of
\nyour website for smartphone visitors (as is
\nthe case with a mobile website), the content
\non a responsive website adjusts to fit the
\nscreen dimensions of your visitors’ browsing
\ndevice.<\/p>\n

A responsive website is ideal for SEO
\nbecause all of your webpages live on a single
\ndomain (i.e. the “www.” version). Moreover, Google’s preferred configuration for creating
\na mobile-friendly site is responsive design.
\nAdditionally, it provides a consistent brand
\nexperience across devices, such that the
\ncolor scheme, calls-to-action, and display
\nof information will be presented similarly to
\ndesktop and mobile visitors.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Mobile App.
\nA mobile app is an application that is downloaded
\nand installed on to a user’s mobile
\ndevice – perfect for gaming, banking, personalization
\nand when you want something
\nunique that uses your phone’s functionality
\nlike the camera or GPS. However, a mobile
\napp is not accessed via the internet unless the
\napp is already installed on the user’s mobile
\ndevice, and can be deleted on a device. A
\nseparate app also needs to be developed for
\nthe different devices (iPhone vs. Android) so
\nit can get very costly to develop and maintain.<\/p>\n
