Attracting families to Saratoga Race Course is one of the goals of NYRA, the track operators who are adding a few new attractions to this year’s meet which starts July 24\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Saratoga Springs’ own Marylou Whitney will be
\namong those honored this summer when she is
\nrepresented on the new Walk of Fame being created
\nat Saratoga Race Course this year.<\/p>\n

The Walk of Fame is among the changes this
\nyear announced by the New York Racing Association
\n(NYRA).
\nThe meet starts July 24 and ends Labor Day,
\nSept. 7.<\/p>\n

The covered structure, which features the traditional
\nSaratoga turrets and is located adjacent to the Carousel, will house a number of commemorative
\nplaques honoring industry leaders, including
\nowners, trainers and jockeys, who have made an
\nindelible mark on thoroughbred racing at Saratoga
\nRace Course.<\/p>\n

The new attraction will provide a permanent
\nhome for the plaques and their narratives, where
\nguests can learn about the honorees.
\n“The Saratoga Walk of Fame is our way of
\nacknowledging and recognizing these individuals for their dedication to the sport with a place to
\npublicly enshrine their accomplishments,” said
\nNYRA CEO and President Chris Kay. “We hope
\nour guests will enjoy Saratoga’s newest attraction
\nwhich is designed to highlight the contributions of
\nour industry’s leading pioneers and achievers for
\ndecades to come.”<\/p>\n

The other 2015 inductee will be prominent
\nowner Ogden Mills “Dinny” Phipps of Phipps
\nStable. The plaques for each honoree will be unveiled
\nduring the Red Jacket ceremony at Saratoga
\nRace Course on Friday, Aug. 28, the eve of the 146th
\nrunning of the $1.25 million Travers Stakes.<\/p>\n

Among track changes this summer, NYRA said
\nthere will be two enhanced hospitality areas available
\ndaily for paid reservation and offer guests
\nthe most affordable reserved seat pricing at the
\nhistoric sporting venue.<\/p>\n

“The lower Carousel, which has been tired and
\naging, will be reinvigorated and reintroduced to
\ninclude a signature sports bar that will feature
\ndozens of high-definition television sets,” said
\nKay. “Within the popular backyard, we will have
\nthe same number of tables available on a firstcome,
\nfirst serve basis as last season (850) and
\nwill add more than 100 tables for paid reservation
\nfor the ease and convenience of our guests. We
\nare excited to offer our guests the opportunity to
\nenjoy these two new hospitality areas at Saratoga
\nRace Course.”<\/p>\n

Located within close proximity to the trackside
\napron, the lower Carousel includes five dozen
\ntables available for daily reservation and a new
\nsports bar which features an extensive craft beer
\nselection, popular food vendors, and 40 flat-screen
\ntelevisions showing both racing and other sporting
\nevents. The new hospitality space also provides
\nprotection from the elements.<\/p>\n

Saratoga guests will also have the opportunity
\nto reserve a picnic table each day during, an extension
\nof the popular Travers Day program, officials
\nsaid. More than 100 picnic tables will be made
\navailable daily for paid reservation adjacent to
\nthe paddock.<\/p>\n

“These new areas will make it possible for guests to enjoy a leisurely day at Saratoga with the
\nguarantee that they have a seat waiting for them
\nupon arrival, thereby eliminating the need to often
\narrive at dawn to claim a table,” said NYRA Chief
\nExperience Officer Lynn LaRocca.<\/p>\n

Reserved seating in the new sports bar in the
\nlower Carousel and a premium section of Saratoga’s
\ncoveted backyard picnic tables became
\navailable in June.<\/p>\n

Also returning is the Taste NY series, which will
\nfeature an array of New York ciders, wines and spirits
\nfor sampling every Thursday of the meet; New
\nYork craft beer on Fridays; and New York foods and
\nartisan crafts every Sunday. The Taste NY series at
\nSaratoga Race Course is held in partnership with
\nthe state Department of Agriculture and Markets.<\/p>\n

Agriculture Commissioner Richard Ball said
\nthe state is “pleased to once again bring to Saratoga’s
\naudience some of New York’s best food and
\nbeverages … More and more people are learning
\nthat it’s not only good business to support local
\nagriculture, but that locally-made food and drinks
\nare also delicious.”<\/p>\n

Another new attraction is the Tom Durkin
\nReplay Center, located within the Carousel, which
\nwill allow guests the opportunity to view and
\nhear some of the classic calls by former NYRA
\ntrack announcer Durkin, who retired in 2014 at
\nthe conclusion of the Saratoga meet following a
\n43-year career.<\/p>\n

The 40-day meet includes 69 stakes worth a
\nrecord $18.7 million in purses, NYRA said.
\nA prelude to the Travers will be New York Breeders’
\nShowcase Day, which will be moved to Friday,
\nAugust 28, instead of on Sunday. The popular statebred
\ncard will include six stakes, highlighted by the
\n$250,000 Albany for 3-year-olds going 1 1\/8 miles.<\/p>\n

Two of the biggest days in North American
\nracing will highlight the historic 147th meet at
\nSaratoga Race Course: the Grade 1, $1.25 million
\nTravers on Saturday, Aug. 28, and the $1.25 million
\nWhitney , which will be the anchor of five stakes
\nraceson Whitney Festival Day, Saturday, Aug. 8.<\/p>\n
