Dr. Kelly Cooper, DVM, runs the Clifton Park
\nVeterinary Clinic on Ushers Road in Ballston
\nSpa. The hospital has been in practice since the
\nlate 1976, when it was founded by Dr. Gerard
\nBogaard, DVM.<\/p>\n

The clinic is hosting an open house and fall
\nfestival on Sept. 19, with a bounce house and
\nentertainment. A cat adoption center will be on
\nthe premises. There will be free giveaways and
\ntours of the animal hospital. Hours will be 10
\na.m. to 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

The clinic is a general practice animal hospital.
\nSays Cooper, “We focus on preventative health for
\ndogs and cats, and can do pocket pets if necessary.
\nOur main goal is to keep pets as healthy as possible
\nbefore problems occur.”<\/p>\n

“We focus on fear-free practice, to decrease
\nstress as much as possible. Most of our dog clients
\nlove coming here because they get lots and lots
\nof treats. They may have gained half a pound or
\nso before they leave, but they’re happy. We have
\ndogs dragging their owners in looking for treats.
\nCats are a little harder–they are determined to
\nbe unimpressed,” Cooper said.<\/p>\n

Cooper is a native to the region and graduated
\nfrom Shenendehowa High School. She attended
\nUMass and Amherst, and Cornell for veterinary
\nmedicine.<\/p>\n

Cooper bought the practice in 2008 from Dr.
\nBogaard, when the clinic was Country Knolls
\nAnimal Hospital. “I had been working for some
\ntime and was looking at starting a private practice,
\nand he was looking to retire. He asked if I was
\ninterested in buying. It was perfect timing,” said
\nCooper.<\/p>\n

“We offer all basic services of a veterinary
\nhospital. We try to be a small-town doctor and
\nkeep it friendly and family-oriented. I am the only
\ndoctor here, and my clients always see me. We
\nfocus on maintaining the relationship. We work
\nwith the owners and what is going to work best
\nfor them and the pet,” Cooper stated.<\/p>\n

“We are offering a wellness plan, where clients
\ncan pay for a year’s worth of services, including
\nvaccines, in monthly payments. It helps prevent
\nhaving to come up with a large sum all at once,”
\nsaid Cooper. Plans are specific to puppies\/kittens,
\nadults and seniors.<\/p>\n
