SUNY Empire State College’s MBA programs,
\nthrough its advanced graduate certificate in
\nproject management, has again been recognized
\nas a Registered Education Provider by the
\nProject Management Institute.<\/p>\n
As an R.E.P., the college’s graduate certificate
\nmeets PMI’s quality criteria for course content,
\ninstructor qualification and instructional
\ndesign.<\/p>\n
The 12-credit graduate certificate comprises
\nfour online courses and may be earned as an
\nindividual credential or incorporated into a
\nrelated master’s degree for those meeting the
\nprogram admission requirements.<\/p>\n
Merodie A. Hancock, president of the college,
\nsaid a globally recognized project management
\ncertification “demonstrates to employers that
\nSUNY Empire’s MBA graduates, and those
\nwho have completed the graduate certificate,
\nhave the competencies and knowledge to
\neffectively drive and lead business and project
\nteam success.”<\/p>\n
“With the growing need for project leaders
\nacross all employment sectors, including
\nnot-for-profit and government, the advanced
\ncertificate in project management appeals
\nto a broad range of students and fits into a
\nnumber of master’s degree programs,” said
\nTai Arnold, dean of the college’s School for
\nGraduate Studies.<\/p>\n
“As I look at the job market, project managers,
\nespecially those who are certified, have a bright
\nfuture,” said Warren Montgomery, a student who
\ncompleted the certificate. “I have worked in a
\nnumber of organizations as a project manager,
\nand frequently as a program manager, but I had
\nonly taken an introductory course to project management as part of my MBA.<\/p>\n
“I enrolled in SUNY Empire’s project
\nmanagement certificate program to help
\ndevelop my skills, and keep my ‘saw’ sharp. I
\nalso plan to take the PMI’s project management
\nprofessional certification exam and the
\ngraduate certificate in project management
\nwill help me prepare for the exam.”<\/p>\n
The advanced graduate certificate in project
\nmanagement meets the strict PMI standards
\nand criteria reflecting current skills, knowledge
\nand best practices, said Alan Belasen, professor
\nand chair of the School for Graduate Studies
\nBusiness, Management and Leadership
\nPrograms. It ensures that the curriculum is
\ncontinuously updated and current, “which
\nmeans our graduates are able to meet the needs
\nof employers in the global marketplace.”<\/p>\n
According to a PMI survey, nearly 75
\npercent of executives believe their company’s
\nperformance could improve if their employees
\ngained certain key skills. PMI emphasizes
\nthat project management, one of the key
\nskills identified in the survey, can enhance
\nindividuals’ marketability and provide them
\nwith the flexibility to move across projects,
\norganizations, industries and geography.<\/p>\n
PMI further states that project managers are
\nin demand around the world and an average of
\n1.2 million project management positions will
\nneed to be filled each year for the next decade.<\/p>\n

\nportfolio management profession serving
\nmore than 2.9 million professionals through
\nglobal advocacy, collaboration, education and
