Rebuild NY Now, a broad-based coalition
\nseeking to raise public awareness about the
\nissues impacting New York state’s infrastructure,
\ncontinued its campaign and call for
\nparity in November, meeting in Albany with
\nlocal elected officials, members of organized
\nlabor, and private local businesses.<\/p>\n
This coalition called on the State Legislature
\nand the governor to include funding
\nparity between the capital plans of the Metropolitan
\nTransit Authority and the New York
\nState Department of Transportation in the
\n2016-17 Executive Budget.<\/p>\n
Mike Elmendorf, president and CEO of
\nRebuild NY Now, said the coalition has come
\ntogether “because our crumbling roads and
\nbridges are in serious need of attention and,
\nmore importantly, are in serious need of
\na multibillion dollar capital commitment
\nfrom the state. Renewing a commitment to
\nthe historic parity agreement between roads
\nand bridges and transit will not only create
\njobs and save New Yorkers money, but it will
\nensure the safety and well-being of Capital
\nDistrict families who every day ride on roads
\nand bridges that are in a state of disrepair.”<\/p>\n
Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy
\nsaid, “Capital Region drivers and their families
\ndeserve safe and reliable roads and bridges
\njust as New York City commuters deserve a
\ntransit system that is second to none. Many
\ncommute every day on roads and bridges that
\nneed to be fixed. We must restore parity to
\nNew York’s millions of drivers who are pay
\nbillions only to travel on unsafe roads and
\nbridges.”<\/p>\n
\nState Sen. Hugh T. Farley said, "many of the
\nroads and bridges throughout Upstate New
\nYork are in great need of repair and improvement.
\nFor the health of our local economies,
\nas well as the safety of motorists, it is essential
\nthat we make the necessary infrastructure
\nimprovements to maintain and improve our
\ntransportation system. It is also essential, and
\na matter of fairness, that any transportation
\ninvestments occur throughout the entire state,
\nnot just in one region."<\/p>\n
"It is critical that we make smart investments
\nin our infrastructure throughout Upstate
\nNew York, where everyday commuters
\nand families are traveling on roads and bridges
\nthat are in desperate need of improvements.
\nWe must advance a strong capital plan in this
\nyear's budget and renew the parity that used to
\nexist between upstate roads and bridges and
\nthe mass transit systems downstate. Investing
\nin our infrastructure will create jobs, protect
\ntaxpayer dollars, and improve the safety of
\nour communities," said Sen. George Amedore.<\/p>\n
"The New York State Conference of Operating
\nEngineers strongly supports fair and full
\ninfrastructure funding throughout the entire
\nstate. State roads and bridges are in desperate
\nneed of repair," said Marina O'Donnell. "We
\nneed to rebuild our battered roads and failing
\nbridges to make New Yorkers safer and create
\ngood local jobs here in the Capital District and
\nthroughout the state."<\/p>\n

\nto join Rebuild NY Now's call for fair transportation
\ninvestment. The upstate economy
